Hello!

I'm new to this forum, although I've been drooling over your tank photos for months!! :). We finally bought a house and are moving next month so I am getting ready to start a reef tank. I'm really excited but still have a lot to learn!

I'd love to get my hands on a 48x24x24 aquarium and stand with overflows (Ideally, although I'm open to other sizes/suggestions), and thought I'd put my feelers out before I started looking at new stuff. Does anybody have some leads? For financial reasons, I'm just looking for the tank right now and will piece things together as I go.

I just wanted to introduce myself, I'm looking forward to joining the hobby! Thanks in advance!

Emma, welcome to RF. I hope you like it here. Congrats for the new house...

Is this going to be your first attempt on a reef tank? Dont be shy to ask, Im sure experts here will more than willing to help you. Dont be a stranger...

Welcome....

Welcome to RF.
There is a lot of great info here on reefkeeping. Check out the other threads.
Definately check craigslist. I have seen some good size tanks for great prices.
There is a classified section here on RF also, but there is a membership time requirement and post requirement to view it, I believe. Anyway, good luck finding a tank and post pics as often as you can of it being set up and stocked.
Welcome again!

Welcome to RF Emma! :welcome:. The dimensions of the tank you are looking for allows for a lot of versatility! Good luck getting your hands on one! As suggested, you can try craigslist, throughout this forum (through maybe the sponsors) and then there is of course the classifieds as Lorrie suggested. Unfortunately to use the classifieds, you have meet a 30 day/50 post criteria first or become a premium member.

Anyways, enjoy the forum and if you have any questions please feel free to ask! :)

Welcome! You've come to the right place. Be sure to do A LOT of research, before making a single purchase! This will enable you to purchase the most appropriate equipment, rather than making the mistake a lot of us have, and making bad purchasing decisions, which end up costing more money in the long run!

Thank you for the warm welcome, guys! I'm so looking forward to getting started, and I can tell I'm this is the perfect place to be for my for my inevitably neurotic questions :). I will keep scouring the forum and Craigslist. Thanks again!!

If you're up near Kirkland, Denny's Pet World has their Anniversary Sale on the 8/11 - 8/12. Great bargains on tanks and stands.

NC2WA: Thanks for the tip on that book, I'll absolutely check it out!

Rainydave: I'm in Olympia, but that's a great tip! Would likely be worth the drive, especially if they'll have discounted tanks/supplies. Thanks again!

I'm in Olympia but would be happy to make the drive. I'd be curious to know what your prices are - trying to get into this hobby and still be budget conscious. Ha! Is that even possible???

Emma

Emma,

you can be budget conscious, however for a skimmer and lights you do not want to go cheap IMO..

Hey all, just a reminder...lets keep all discussion of selling and buying and offers of the same to the classifieds and PM's.
Thank you.
