Hey, you gonna get the underwater housing too? :) I am getting one of these myself this xmas. My camera is dead and it always sucked anyways. Thinking I might buy a cheap POS and put it in an underwater housing for ****s and giggles but am too paranoid to risk the rebel. I like the self cleaning sensor deal, anyone know about that? My other 2 cameras the photos got darker and darker over the months, made me wonder if something was getting dusty or blocked somehow.
So maybe soon I will have a thread on Hawaii fish life :)
Thanks everyone for the tips on sellers and lenses too...

Hey, do you guys worry about salt spray getting into the camera shooting outdoors near the ocean? We wanted to shoot a site yesterday where the salt completely coated my glasses in about a minute. Probably not too good for camera gear... Are these cameras sufficiently sealed for that?

Hey Kate! I'd love to get an underwater housing. That would be a whole new chapter on my photos here! We shall see:D

After talking to the camera store people today I think some kind of case is essential for you and I, even one of those bag types from dive shops... any salt spray and the camera is toast, plus if it's bagged and you drop it overboard it floats! :) I checked out the rebel, the olympus and nikon and like the nikon best as the rebel seems like something I would drop, it sort of felt wrong in our hands. The Olympus was better and the Nikon felt "right". Now I gotta learn the specs for all 3 and compare prices... Rebel is several hundred bucks cheaper and has more toys though.
Now I just need a boat and I am all set! Oh and a dock. And a house. :)

Krish75,

Congrats on the camera. I just gave myself this same camera for Xmas. Two reasons why I got this camera:

1. I will be able to use my existing canon 75-300 and 28-105 lenses and
2. my entire family and in-laws were bugging me that the never had any good pics of the grandkids. well, i now have solved that problem. :D

(3). I also plan on using it to document pics when I start to set up my 450 gallon tank some time next year.

Enjoy your camera, it is a very nice one. I would suggest investing in a lense protector cover (will run around $50-60). It will save your lenses in case you were to drop your lense. I have them on all my lenses and they do work.

Thanks Kirk! I started reading the manual today and messing with the camera some. Still have a lot to learn, but will get it I'm sure. I want to order a nice macro lens on Wednesday hopefully when most businesses open so we'll see. I will eventually post some pics of the tank when I get the hang of it, but so far...A very nice camera! I got some shots outdoors of the family and were superior to anything I've ever had:)

Me too! I started doing that tutorial Brian (Mungus) posted on an earlier page and it is very helpful! Thanks Brian!:D As soon as I get some more time to finish it up, I'll get to taking photos;)

Yeah...I took a few shots today that came out pretty nice! I just need to get a macro lens and also learn how to use the program they sent to clean up pictures simliar to photoshop. I used the program for uploading the pictures to clean up a few, but this other program has a lot more features called Photo Studio. I'm getting the hang of things thanks to the link Brian gave me on canon's website. Very helpful.:)
