no carbon or other media..i only have a biowheel on the power filter..the only thing in the tank is a pvc pipe

Ron, did you have the same results with the sample regent supplied with the kit? I don't recall you mentioning that yet.

If so, you have a bumb kit. Get it replaced asap if needs be. Make sure you include the lot #'s with any communication with Seachem, it will speed things up greatly.

oh yeah..i forgot it came with a kit to make sure it was working..i will try it in a minute

well i bought another brand of copper test kit today.. it is useless!!!! the color chart starts out at 0.25 and gets higher..at least i know it is nowhere near .25!!!

i got about .10 or a little less..it is still not working...Steve, the PB has a white cloudy eye!!! it looks like it has a pin sized hole in it....its' eye is not enlarged like popeye or anything, but it does seem a bit swollen...could it be the copper?????
also, Steve, i checked my nitrites a minute ago...they were really high....3.0..i did a 60%-70% water change...they are still the same..i waited 15min after the WC to let things settle and the readings were still the same...i have alot of extra water mixed..i am going to do WC's everyday

Watch the eye for infection but I would just keep up on the water changes. As for the copper, you really need to get an accurate test kit. If you bought it locally take it back and get a replacement.

Don't worry about the nitrite, just keep ammonia as close to zero as possible. How high is the ammonia and the nitrate?

ammonia is at zero..nitrate is showing around 15ppm....i bought the copper test kit offline..nobody here has a good one..i bought the only one i could find and it is garbage..all the lfs' have the same one...i e-mailed Seachem and still haven't gotten a reply...

it is made by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Inc....... also, the PB's eye looks better today

I have no experience with that particular kit. If your LFS uses this kit for their own tanks, take a same of your QT water and see what kind of reading the get. If all seems okay, proceed with that. It tests up to 4 ppm so it might just work.

i have had the tang in copper treatment for 16 days..Friday will be 21 days..i know you said 21 days at most...when should i remove the carbon???

Remove the carbon? You mean put some in I hope!!

How does the tang look and did you ever get confirmation on the actual treatment level?

never got a accurate reading..i have been doing 2-3 water changes a week w/ 4 drops per gallon in the make-up water..if anything, the copper level is high..i haven't been doing topoff regularly, so i'm sure it is a little high...Seachem only contacted me about 3 days ago..also, i meant, "remove the copper"... the tang looks good..i haven't seen any kind of bad signs lately..its' eye looks almost completely healed, just a little spot left..

the eye looked like it had a hole in it..it was a little swollen and had a pin sized hole in it..it now looks almost entirely healed..there is just a very tiny wound on the eye..it should be gone in a day or two with the way it has been healing so far

OK, I thought spot meant parasite. If it's a secondary wound, go ahead and remove the copper now. Since the level cannot be accurately verified, another week will not be of any benefit. Make sure the tang remains isolated for at least 2 weeks in this tank to be sure the treatment was a success.

ok..it is nice to see one finally getting better!!! this one was relatively easy
