I am going boldly here and am going to rebuild a well known tank. It's a 4'x4'x20" rimless glass tank. It sprung a leak and has been sitting around till this weekend coming up where a few of my newfound reefer friends and I will be taking it apart and rebuilding the whole shooting match. So this one will include, a tank build stand build, floor reinforcing(total system will be 300 gallons). I want the concept to be a Coldwater lookdown/touch tidal tank. Some of you knew this build was coming. But I think it's time to start it. Tearing down the tank, stand and loading equipment and extras will be on Sunday as well as unloading in Monroe and design for floor reinforcement. The spot has concrete foundation holding up the floor on three sides of an alcove that is six feet wide. I plan on putting concrete pavers as footings along with treated 4x4s to reinforce the floor and level it. Then start on the stand design/build. This one may take awhile because it will be on a budget. And I want it done right. Lol. We shall see how budget it really is.

Budget... Saltwater hobby... Be real Nem!!

Lol I have to try right? Budget is on a sliding scale with this hobby. I've said budget minded with all my tanks, but.... Ya only in comparrison to buying everything new. I'm excited for Sunday to come though.

glad to see Seth's old tank coming back. Make sure to post pics of the reseal. Are you using the same sealant or something else?

Well mike is helping me and is looking at the situation to see what is needed. I'm a rookie at tank making so I can't say I know. When I do I'll post it in as much detail as I can. And I remember awhile back and seeing one of the threads on it and thinking that would be cool to do someday. I never thought, that I would be able to get that tank going again.

Yes definitely cool to see a rebirth of Seth's tank, an awesome aquarium and will be sweet to see it holdin water again. Let me know when you start adding some livestock, I come across some interesting stuff at our private beach at Pt No Ptthat might peak your interest as well. I also have access to another in Gamble Bay thats loaded with small Eels and Flounder/Sole plus many inverts.

Cheers, Todd

Ok just getting the pieces in place for the operation on Sunday. Lol it's like preparing for amfibiois assault. Had two members of the Monroe team backout today. But that's how it goes with these things. Sunday come soon

We haven't heard anything from you on this end. We are good to help on the south end. Shoot us a PM with details, phone numbers and such and we will be there.

Whew that was a great time! The disassembly was quick and relatively painless. It looked like a squad of aquarium commandos decended upon that tank. Now starts the hard part. Rebuilding the thing. It looks like it will get done. But it has now turned into a long term project. And really I need to thank mike, Eric and Dave. I can't express my gratitude enough. It was alot of work and you made it look easy. Now its time for me to get to work!

The only pic worth taking was when I cut one of the plumbing lines and the 6 month old water sprayed onto Mikes leg!!!! LOL

Didnt have a camera. Sorry!

Well as Dave said there was only one pic worth taking. Lol. But it really would have been priceless . But I can't say it was just one person that cringed! We all were traumatized by that smell! But some more than others, haha.

Was probably worse than getting pee'd on by a dog, aye! LOL

Anytime you have peppy and mojoreef working on something you should have a video camera! Could be worth 10K! ;)

LOL
Lorie that would be so true, but just dont let Eric run the camera. It would end up on the floor, or the lens cover would still be on.

Yea.....very nice I have taken three showers and still smell it !!!

Not really sure what was used, but in looking at the tank I dont think it would have mattered. We will do it up real nice for ya Nem.

Mike

The sealant he used was rtv 108. But the plan is to go with a clear sealant to compliment the rimless look. It's way bigger than I imagined. My stand design has started. I am looking at using 4x6 treated lumber for the legs, and 2x8 for the rim and supports on top of a platform bottom to distribute the weight over the floor better. That's the initial thought process at least. Any suggestions are welcome.
