Rebirth of an old 300 gallon

About a month ago I picked up Kylems old 300 on the other side of the state. Had one of my larger fiascos on the way back with the state police being convinced it was a portable meth lab, then finally got it home to sit around for a bit until I figured out what was planned for it. Its mostly...

large tank setup, need some input

I'm not real familiar with manufactured homes, how is the floor joined to the I beams? I would think about building or modifying the the stand so it just sits on the I beams. As for support, with that much weight, I would think about pouring some cement under there for some adjustable screw...

    My First Reef Tank

Looking really good and clean for only a month old. I know the feeling of needing one stupid 30 cent fitting and needing to drive all over everywhere so I can finish a project that night.

    yeeouch... bad new record..

thats just electric, gas is cascade up here. My gas bill is usually $41. other than 3500 watts of lighting plus pumps, powerheads heaters, filters, skimmer and ventlation for my house (only 1200 sq ft) nothing... LOL

    Water evaporation

I will be covering my tank next winter, I ended up with quite a mold problem last winter because I couldn't air out the house. I also lose 10 gallons plus a day. If your house is that humid, you might want to invest in a dehumidifier now. Replacing walls/floors isn't fun.

    owwie, my wallet hurts.

55 gal is gone I need some ideas for my next adventure

LOL... technically my tank would fit in that space but you might want to check on how much your floor can handle. Keep in mind that once you have a monster tank, plan on a 5 digit number for the price tag of just equipping it, entire buckets of salt for a water change and a 3-400 a month power...

    Insurance policy for renters?

I'll see if I can get an online copy. It seems to state (as I recall) equipment and livestock other than normal pets and lists off what 'normal' pets are. I wouldn't go after it if there was a cracked pump, but if a tank fails I might. It's some company out of texas.

    Insurance policy for renters?

I'm a homeowner not a renter, but if anyone knows a nice 'backdoor' trick to end up with some cheap insurance for your livestock/equipment. My agent has it listed under "incedental farming and livestock" Originally I had it for my goats (why I had to insure goats I don't know) but as near as...

    making rock wall

I keep hearing about "great stuff" breaking down, but I haven't seen any issues in my tank. Some of the stuff from my previous tank is in my sump and I can't pull it apart. I never coated it in epoxy either. Out of curiosity I cut a blob of it open out of my sump and it was full of critters...

bye bye sand bed, hello rock bed. Opinions?

someday I'm going to figure out the trick to getting cool pics like I always see on these forums.... was trying to get a good shot of the shrimp because I hadn't really seen him in a couple years. always lived in my sumps...

bye bye sand bed, hello rock bed. Opinions?

I'm actually slowly getting rid of almost all of it and replacing it with rock. I'm hoping that will solve mine. mostly I hate scratching my tank...

and a random FTS.... in 2 parts.. I have got to redo that return line one of these days... drives me nuts everytime I see it in a pic.

bye bye sand bed, hello rock bed. Opinions?

and I finally mounted all my frags and got the 'old west saloon' out of the tank... and a couple new additions.

well its up and running on the main system... I was feeling nice and even caught the coral banded out of the sump where the eel lives...

bye bye sand bed, hello rock bed. Opinions?

Its just a high gloss external house paint I had kicking around from when I painted my house. Still need to do the inside of it.

Pump for nano. AKA Low profile magnet driven external pump.

Impressive. I'd be curious to see a how too video. Want a real challenge... come up with some that work with 1 1/4" acrylic...LOL My hearing is shot, so I don't worry about noise.

    Removing Center Brace

I'm assuming you are refering to the glass brace in things like 6' tanks. If so , I've never intentionally removed them, but I have broken a few. Usually I got a piece of acrylic the right size and super glued it to the plastic rim. Silicon does not bond well with glass.

bye bye sand bed, hello rock bed. Opinions?

Well, plumbing is tested, bulkheads repeatedly sworn at, but everything looks to be a go. It would be alot clearer if I'd stop screwing around with the sand bed. Running with 1 powerhead and a canister filter to pull out some of the fine grains. I'll give it a few days before I turn it on to...
