    Slate's 125gal build

Looks like a fun start. I always here people complain about the Nova extreme pro's but I have 3 of those lights over my tank and have been quite happy with them. I also have extra legs for them if yours didn't come with any.. couldn't tell from the pic.

    All about lighting

LOL... I'm sure glad I don't worry about the WPG 'rule'... I can barely keep anything in the top 3rd of ,y tank as it is..

    All about lighting

    umm... 36-36" t-5s and 24-48" t'5s and 12 3w LEDs (moon lights) I think.. 3.6w or something

New 300 gallon salt tank - equipment???

A lot of those decisions come down to how much you want to work on your tank vs. having it run itself and of course budget. Skimmer and light opinions will be all over the board, a lot less is needed (though can be nice) if you just want a fish only system, where as with a full blown reef tank...

Has anyone done a split tank?

I thought I had sent you those measurements.. sorry about that. and what might look really cool is a drop off effect. 1/2 the tank sand bed then a steep incline to a shallower area.. perhaps even a cryptic/cave area that you could see in to under it. Could do it all w/ T-5s and keep a...

Has anyone done a split tank?

I don't see where there would be a problem. I've seen a couple of tanks where there was subdued lighting except for a couple of SPS that were Spotlighted... really a pretty cool effect.

    Sharkwater premiere (link to announcement)

at the risk of being a little political... you may want to rethink you position on the sea sheperds... if you like having a fish tank, we are in their sights as well http://www.seashepherd.org/news-and-media/editorial-100821-1.html

    Recommendation about return pump

I'd agree w/ the ehimes or one of the smaller mag drives. Generally pretty tough, and easy to replace or get parts for if they do have issues.

Need some help the weekend of October 1st and 2nd

My Gf's parents live down there (Shelton) and we owe them a visit. Might be able to meet someone interested in the light I'm trying to get rid of half way as well.. So if you need the second truck I could be down there (8' bed) as well.. I'm not much for the lifting part however. I'm usually...

    Deploying & moving

I can be around with some notice as well. I'm not much for lifting, but I have a big truck and trailer. I'm up by the border but its not to far.

    USPS failure don't use them

LOL... the government doesn't even use the USPS for its own mailing of important documents. of the big 3, I've had the best luck with fed ex

To reef big? or not to reef big?? LOL

One thing thats nice out here in the NW is that between mils summers, and not that cold winters heating and cooling are fairly easy for large tanks as it takes quite a bit to heat them up or have them cool off. I don't actually have heaters that are plugged in on my tank. The lights/pumps are...

    Foam in the aquarium

I've used both, and actually prefer the great stuff myself. Some of my rockwork is more than a couple years old, and I can't pull it apart. I have freespanning arch in my tank almost 5' long and it hasn't gone anywhere,

Making the impossible possible? Don't give up!

I kept africans for ages until I finally broke it down after my 225 reef failed. whole mess of africans and south americans lived quite happily or were just to crammed in to fight. and in its glory days...

To reef big? or not to reef big?? LOL

if nothing else, water really likes to find its own level, and I fitted the other sump for the same pipe that the other one has. I used slip fit bulkheads as that was what I had around. One has had all the baffles removed and one is fitted with 5 of them for a skimmer/bubble trap (I put that...

    All fish dead?

I'm operating on the assumption none of the fish or corals are new or even fairly new. Some fish diseases can do a number on a tank like brooklenella (however its spelled) wiped out half my tank in a matter of 24 hours a few years ago. With inverts being fine and acting normally I would also...

To reef big? or not to reef big?? LOL

Also knowing the set up in question (having most of is scattered around my living room. It won't be difficult to plum one sump in to the other w/ 2" pipe (both sumps are drilled for it) so that the water level stays the same easily. W/ the closed loop, it also will make it easier to hide all...

    making rock wall

My advice would be to go far more wild than you think you need. Overhangs, arches, nooks and crannies. I used eggcrate as a base, than zip ties and other things to get everything in place... then spray foamed the heck out of everything and cut the excess off with a kitchen knife. a little...
