    All about lighting

Yeah I don't go by wpg but maybe I should...250w 20k giesemann with icecap ballast over 20high tank. 12.5 WPG. Oh yeah and I don't go by: inch of fish, or lb of rock, or pound of sand, or ounce of coral, per gallon either.

If you are shooting RAW, you can adjust WB in your standard editing software as well, that came with your camera. (and now for a shameless plea...does anyone here have Photoshop for Mac? Any version?). Haha thanks.

As far as point and shoots have come (and that is a LONG ways) it still just can't compare to the quality/richness of the dslr/lenses. What did you have that got stolen?

    my very first decent pic!

Not necessarily, since most of our lighting setups on the tanks allow enough light to "stop" the shot. If shutter was lower than say 1/250 or so, or no "image stabilization" in the lens, than for sure tripod would be a must. You guys are doing a phenomenal job for just starting out!! Keep...

Who stocks Giesemann bulbs in the south end?

Adam you aren't running these are you? I thought you only had t5 for actinic supplement to your halides? I would be curious to see what this would look like accurately as I am about to need the "perfect" color combo with my setup. Or is this on your new tank?

Yeah must be out of your size. Cuz I know he has some in there as of last night.

I just do the next best thing. Snorkel! Put your mask on snorkel in, and flippers for the full effect! Just make sure you turn the lights off or you'll scorch the back of your head. The blisters take forever to heal.

Another thing about photography...don't be discouraged if you you only get 1 out of every 100 shots that are worth keeping, or even 1 out of every 500 ;)

Another thing, shoot RAW any chance you get. While you are learning now, if you have the option on your camera shoot JPEG Fine/RAW. With RAW you'll be able to convert your pictures white-balance "color" to most accurately show what your corals look like. With all the different bulbs and light...

I wouldn't buy any lenses anytime soon...until you are for sure decided on a brand. I LOVE Canon, but both brands have their pros/cons of course. Nikon is becoming increasingly user friendly where Canon had always been known as the more "user-friendly" brand. Since lenses will stay as bodies...

It is all about the lens'. And every lens is not created the same. Whenever possible shoot with the lens you are about to purchase to deem if it is 'sharp' or not. Buying used is a GREAT idea when you are getting started. I shoot Canon and all my lens are L lenses, except one. But I have to...

    Crystalclear125 49 gal tank build!!!!

I'd let it be for another 24 hours or so it will cure and than easily come off with a razor blade. If it doesn't acetone should work well.

Tank is looking really good! DAP 100% Silicone rubber sealant (50yr). Not sure if Lowe's has it but for sure McClendan's on Canyon does. Just make sure you read the back for the food safe stuff. Better than GE's stuff.

Hey Adam, I would recommend this silicone. GREAT adhesion and strong. Momentive RTV103 or IS803. It's available at Grainger and is food-safe.

    Rose Nipped by Tunze Powerhead.

I received a bubble tip from a guy one time the foot looked like it went through a shredder. I put it in a lower flow part of the tank to allow it to attach to a rock...with feeding and time it has come all the way back.

Sweet dimensions! Did you order the glass cut? Or did you cut it all yourself?
