    background

I picked up a large piece of foam core at Office Depot and spray painted it. I like the foam core because it is rigid and does not show ripples. Also my tank is 30" high and I could not find an background that big.

    brown alge all over

Don't leave your blue lights on all night and cut your total light time to 7 hours. What do you have in your tank that needs light? If you just have fish and live rock, light is not that important. Also, are you filtering your top water with RO/DI? If not, every time you do a water change...

after every water change do i have to put salt in

I think it would also be possible to vacuum you tank into your sump (if you have one). That way you don't have to pour the water back to your tank by hand. I have yet to try this, but I'm sure it would work well between water changes.

Crazy Bubbles after a water change

I wouldn't worry about it. It is most likely caused by a changed in the water level of your skimmer.

Med Sized Skimmer Comparison 100-150 Gal

Or just remove the Dry component from the wet/dry filtration. I removed the bio balls in my wet/dry system (with 110 lbs of live rock) and I'm having great results. I may want to use the filter some day for a fish only tank, so it can be a nice option to have.

Med Sized Skimmer Comparison 100-150 Gal

I have a Pro Series Wet/Dry Filter from Pro Clear and I'm very happy with it. The skimmer is very efficient and is extremely easy to clean. I pick up this unit originally because of my limited space in my stand, but have grown to really appreciate it.

    Thanks for the info everyone!

    compact fluorescents problem

I'm sure they will be good about it. They already replaced (or rather Hamilton did) my 10k 250watt HQI bulbs that were extremely yellow (even after break in). I was sent 2 14k's to replace them which was a huge inprovement!

    compact fluorescents problem

I sent an e-mail to Custom Aquatic and asked them what to do. I really hope it's not dead.

    compact fluorescents problem

The ballast brand is Hamilton and I've tried plugging it in the wall and other areas with no luck. I wonder if I'll have to take it apart to find the fuse location since I see no obvious cap.

    Macro algae in overflow?

Hi Nikki, Thanks for the reply. I was actually thinking about some Chaetomorpha I found at my LFS, but I have to admit I know next to nothing about plants. Do you think that would work without making a mess? My 110 gallon reef is only about 2 months old and so far I have the algae under...

    Macro algae in overflow?

Has anyone here ever tried to put macro algae in their overflow? I have a built in overflow (AGA) that gets plenty of light. I may give this a try. To avoid the algae getting out of control and growing into the pipes I may want to use a fine mesh bag that would allow the passing of water and...

    compact fluorescents problem

Hello, Over the weekend I plugged my compact fluorescents into a 15 amp outdoor timer and come back 2 days later to find them off. I can't seem to get them back on at all. Has anyone ever run into this? I've only had them for a month, so I find it hard to believe that they are dead already...

    10000k HQI's still yellow

My Hamilton Protostar came with the 10000k Hamiltons. I found some XM 250 watt 20000k DE bulbs for $61. Are those any good. When you look at the pic on http://metricksystem.com/chris/250wcolour/ they look very nice. The 14000k Hamiltons on this website look very blue and nice as well.

    10000k HQI's still yellow

Thanks for the replys! I run mine about 8 hours a day. I have nothing in the tank that needs the light, I just want to break them in... of course that does not seem to be working very well. Call me crazy, but I just don't like my tank to look like its fill with urine. Ok, the 96watt atinics...

    10000k HQI's still yellow

Hello! This is my first post here so please excuse me if I'm asking a common question. I've had a Hamilton Deluxe Protostar HQI system (2-250-watt 10K & 2 96-watt CF) for 2 weeks now and the light from the HQI bulbs still look very yellow. I read that this would go away after 2 weeks or 100...
