    Monthly cost of MH Lights

Sermech! My central valley brethren! :) (Just south of Fresno here) You guys are all making me cry. CA *STARTS* at $.12/KwH, but they break everything up into tiers, depending on your percentage over "base rate." Base rate here is completely impossible... Something along the lines of 350KwH...

    Krish's Bahamian Photo log

No, YOU would get fined, not Krish. He's no fall guy. :) I think they have electricity 24/7 and everything. Running water, even! Maybe Krish can verify.

    Tang

Funny, Ron! I was thinking of how you'd react as I was typing that! LOL I'm just not a fan of the hippo. It gets freakin' huge, and I so rarely see them actually healthy or old.

    Tang

You've gotten a lot of great suggestions already. I'd also choose a yellow tang LONG before ever considering a hippo, myself. I just posted in another forum that I have a 120, and plan on filling it with LOTS of small fish (all the anthias, wrasses, gobies, etc. mentioned above) and a couple...

    White thing

I really hope I'm wrong, but that sure looks like it could be brooklyenella. I've never had to deal with it before, but it's worth looking into.

    how much light......?

Does your tank have a center brace up top? If so, a single MH bulb would be a problem because of the massive shadow. Anyway, what about something like this? A 24" fixture with both 150w HQI and 4x24w T5...

    What Fish Should I Get??

Tangs are great grazers.. sea cows. :) Consider some fish that also have some function, like the tangs for algae control, or some gobies for sand cleansing, etc. In a 180, the list of potential fish is huge. I just upgraded from a 38 to a 120, and it's a totally different world. For my tank...

    chaeto during cycle?

I used chaeto during a cycle without issue. Coming from an established tank, it was a major source for introducing bacteria in the first place.

    how much light......?

If you already have it, it will work, but that's a lot of light. As mentioned, raise it a little. This will also help with coverage. If you haven't purchased yet, consider a combo pendant with 150w and some sort of supplementation, such as T5 or PC.

3 year old 240 gl reef tank any ideas.

Fresno area here! Welcome to RF. Also, check out nvreefers.org, they're a great group based out of Stockton. I guess we need to know a little more about your tank setup, to give you more ideas. Regardless of tank setup, I'm betting an octopus represents more of a challenge than any of us are...

    Mysterious death: Gold spot rabbitfish

I guess there could be some concerns that the multimeter could become the "conductor to ground" that gives the stray voltage a path home. Basically, if you were to hang on a power line, even super high voltage, but only touched one wire, you wouldn't get shocked. That's why birds hang out up...

    Mysterious death: Gold spot rabbitfish

Use a multimeter to read AC voltage. Put one side inside the ground of a power receptacle (It's the round hole in the bottom middle, not either of the top slots), or to any metal pipe going into the ground. Put the other in the water. It shouldn't matter, but just for kicks, test in the tank and...

    The ShermaNANO, a 12g project

I hope I can catch a decent photo of his tail in time. You can only see hints of the yellow with orange spots in the shadows. Seriously, that tail is like a national banner, it's so flashy.

    The ShermaNANO, a 12g project

I decided to hack the super kelp weed, or whatever it was. It reached the surface, and started spreading across the surface, shading out the entire tank. Since then, the halimeda has taken off. Today, I picked up a beautiful Aurora Goby (Amblyeleotris Aurora) from Dr. Dee. He's already eating...

    Identification: Anemone?

I think KevinPo got it right. I've had a couple other suggestions of the same. It will be fun to watch how this thing spreads.

    Identification: Anemone?

I hadn't even thought to look at the foot. Wow. Duh. Taking a closer look definitely leads to me anemone over anything else. I originally glued this thing to the rubble. Now, the foot has extended over the glue completely, only 2 days later. Another reefer has suggested the possibility of...

    Identification: Anemone?

I just picked up a couple of these from another reefer, because I'd never seen anything like them. Some of his were easily the size of a silver dollar, this one is about the size of a quarter. They also seemed to grow in colony fashion, with several of them spread down a branch of rock. I'm...

    Reactor effluent into refugium

I used to drip the effluent into my old skimmer, as well. This may help with initial gassing off of the CO2, but the air still comes out the top of the skimmer, so I'm still introducing the CO2 into my house just the same. I need to find a way to scrub that stuff off, so I was thinking the...

Import LR, fishs or corals in Canada

Altho, thank you. The sand is made by Southdown, and can be found in SOME hardware stores, such as Home Depot. You have to be careful, because most of their sand is silica based, and this is aragonite... Caribbean sand. It's possible that Southdown is going by another name now, but I'm not...

    Sherman Tank 120

Quite a while back, I tried to spear him while he was in his hole. I had tried this on several occasions, but always missed, because he was able to disappear back into his hole. This time, however, I was able to use another hole in the rock to spear him from the top, instead of from the front of...
