Import LR, fishs or corals in Canada

Premiere, bienvenue au Reef Frontiers! I've only crossed the Canada/USA border once. I experienced a much more difficult time getting back into USA than getting into Canada. The Canadian border patrol was very friendly, and asked the simple "where are you headed?" questions. The American BP...

    Reactor effluent into refugium

I've finally started monitoring pH on my new-ish 120g, and just like the old 38g, I'm having a problem with my air tight home being oxygen deprived and having too much CO2. That means: pH is always too low. As you may recall, my 38g had no sump, and no refugium. PH swings were pretty drastic...

    Enlarging

Since we're talking "on screen," pixels per inch is irrelevant. Sure, it could be 300 dpi, but at only 2" wide, making it only 600 pixels to work with. We'd have to know the pixel count if you're intending this for a computer screen and not print.

    die bubble algea!!

I've done the same as mentioned, manual extraction, or even siphon during a water change. I had a foxface (One spot, v. unimaculatus) that ripped through the bubble algae in no time flat, but I don't know if that's normal.

    Show me your carpet!

Julia, how long have you had that blue carpet? Tell me how you care for it. I've seen such generally miserable success with the blues, I'd love to hear a success story. When you posted the pics of your 54 when it was a reef, then the 125, the first thing I looked for was the carpet, wondering if...

    Calcium levels and kh levels

How did it get that high? Are you adding/dosing anything? I run a calcium reactor, and when mine gets that high, I just turn off the reactor for a short while and let the corals soak up the extra calcium, getting levels down to where they need to be.

What I want my new tank to look like

I wouldn't go with the Anthias, either. They really need a lot of space, and as mentioned, have a pretty tedious feeding schedule. My females always stay close to the rocks, but they're always darting in and out. The male sits out above the rocks, like a sentinel, but generally doesn't go out...

What I want my new tank to look like

Chromis are another great schooling fish, certainly. I'd probably choose those over any of the cardinals because: 1: The bangaii cardinal is expensive ($25/fish means at least a $100-150 school) 2: The pajama cardinal is nocturnal, and boring during the day, IMO 3: The chromis has a much higher...

What I want my new tank to look like

With my current 120g, I decided to "think outside of the box" as mentioned above, also. I wanted an "edge of the reef" appearance. Sort of the outer edge of the reef before open water, similar to the photo you posted. To me, the key is planning and patience. My tank isn't a lot to look at right...

Last I heard, he was thinking of "upgrading" to something smaller. :)

Top 10 Animals You didn’t know were Venomous

My wife used to have a pair of those large millipedes in her 6th grade classroom. The kids either loved them or were scared to death. She used to handle them all the time. Once, her hand broke out in a rash that looked like stitches all over... presumably where all the feet were touching.

    Keeping Sand White?

14ppm coming out of your RO?! Yeah, that's bad. I have had AWESOME success with tiger tail cucumbers. I had one in a 38g, before it split. Now, both of them are in my 120g. A friend has a 240g that started with one tiger tail several years back, and now has at least 6. I've also had decent...

whats ur water flow turn over?

120g (4x2x2) Mag 12 return (1000gph after head loss) Seio 2600 Seio 1500 5100gph / 120 = 42.5x flow rate in tank. About 8x tank volume through the sump every hour.

    Copperband Butterfly not eating

RIGHT! That part where you said TAP water... I missed that part. I guess it was sort of an important part of your post. :) Sorry! Carry on. Nothing to see here. <hides sheepishly>

    Copperband Butterfly not eating

Kirk, I don't believe those will change anything. The high pH water is the product of the RO unit, as mentioned on a previous page.

    Copperband Butterfly not eating

From everything I've ever gathered, it's not possible to accurately measure the pH of RO. It's simply too unstable and can bounce all over the place. My only experience measuring it myself was extremely erratic readings in the same container. It would drop to well below 7.0, then I'd use the pH...

    Paige Elizabeth

Man... time flies, and I haven't kept this updated for you, Gaby! Here are some of the latest photos. In September, we visited grandma and grandpa in Montana (and met Charlie and Willis while there). We also made an afternoon trip up into Canada for lunch, so Paige is international now. :)...

    Sherman Tank 120

Thank you, guys. With this thing being in the front room, and the first thing you see when you walk in the door, keeping it messy doesn't go over well with Mrs. Sherman. I'm also an extremely visual person, too, so a lot of effort goes into keeping things clean. Gaby, Paige is awesome. I've...

    Sherman Tank 120

Gabbs dood, the pendant holds double ended MH bulbs, so it has its own glass sheet to enclose the whole fixture. Between the fully enclosed fixture and the fans on either end blowing air through it, heat really is kept to a minimum. With only that single 6" clip=on fan in the back, I have no...
