    Too Much Chaeto?

I am another in the Huge chaeto block club. My chaeto takes up my entire fuge (13g). As it becomes more and more dense, it begins to die off on the top, and I cut it in half and re-fluff. My theory, also stated above, is that while a softball sized clump may grow faster than a basketball sized...

    Sherman Tank 120

These claws aren't very well suited for eating algae, you know....

    Sherman Tank 120

It would appear I picked up a bad hitchhiker. He eats hermit crabs, this much I know. I've actually seen him with one in his claws. This makes me recognize where all my scarlets have been going. He has an expensive diet, unfortunately. I suspect he's also taking out astrea snails, as their...

Help with ID? (flatworm with a hard shell??)

Well, you know how often we see those "What's this?" "It's a big brown blurry spot that looks like you took the shot with vaseline rubbed all over the lens." :)

    Sump Options

I also like option B. In option A, the skimmer chamber exits into a tight area that will probably be a bit of a bottle neck for flow. As for the thickness of glass, this isn't a stress situation. The glass isn't even holding water back, it's just directing flow, so there's no strain or strength...

Help with ID? (flatworm with a hard shell??)

Just for the record, I saw the title and author and thought "Oh, nice! Guaranteed to have an ID photo we can work with!" :) Chitons are cool!

Two Little Fishies epoxy in Seattle area?

AquaMend at Home Depot... it's the exact same product as the epoxy we all use, without the reefer markup. But it's white.

    Black Urchin in Refugium DOH!!!

Another consideration is that the chaeto is no longer competing for the same food source, so the cyano has free reign. Sounds like you'd better get some more chaeto in there! How do your nitrates levels look? You'll need to starve out that cyano to get rid of it.

    Huge fish tank

Isn't the largest still the 6M gallon at the Georgia Aquarium? Or are we talking largest reef? So I'm guessing 250w MH just aren't going to have that "punch" to reach the bottom of this tank. :)

    Anthias fin trouble

Thanks, Lee. The mysis is probably mysids, actually. PE Mysis, by brand name. I'm aware of the lack of nutrition in the brine shrimp, but IIRC they were added as a part of another mix, for the spirulina, or something obscure. I forget now. I'll continue watching them closely. Thank you again.

    Anthias fin trouble

Here are a couple shots of the fish interaction and their environment:

    Anthias fin trouble

First, I've also recently had suggestions that it might actually be sand. I use Southdown (very fine, white), and the anthias have been seen at times to perch in the rocks, and even in the sand. From your A/B list: Lyretail Anthias, Pseudanthias squamipinnis Females about 2", male about 2.5"...

    Anthias fin trouble

My anthias have been showing some sort of "something" on their pectoral fins. Three days ago, it was all the females only. The next day it was gone. Yesterday, one female started showing again, and today the male has a very slight hint of whatever it is himself. My first thought was ich, but...

    150w Hqi bulbs

14K isn't necessarily blue. What I said was that the Hamilton 14K look very purple. I'm still running Phoenix 14K on my new 120, but it's not too blue for me, but it's all personal preference. Not all bulbs of a specific Kelvin are the same. It will differ from brand to brand. You can't just...

    150w Hqi bulbs

My old 38g ran on Phoenix 14000K, 2x150w HQI. I thought about switching bulbs once, to an IceCap 10000K. I decided against it. I also ran Hamilton 14000K for about 3 weeks, but couldn't stick with it. Hamilton 14000K is my favorite 250w bulb, but in the 150w variety it was crap. It was...

    Sherman Tank 120

Thanks everyone. Seriously. It's been three weeks since the last FTS, and all the coral frags are out of the sandbed now. I'm FINALLY starting to see some color return to a lot of the colonies, as well. A stroke of fortune also had all 5 fish out in the open for this shot. A while back, I...

    Sherman Tank 120

Well, tests show nitrates already dropped back down, so I figured it's time to bring home an old timer. We had a bit of a homecoming last night. When I purchased this setup, I agreed to take the copperband butterfly with it, as well. Luckily, a club member agreed to house the CBB until I was...

Danno, nice! I'd love to see a close up of the clam on the farthest right. Is that a teardrop?
