help on placement for pac man acro

I recommend clipping the ends with algae off. They most likely got burned before acclimating to your tank. They will heal more quickly if trimmed. Once they heal feel free to move the coral to a location higher in the tank. Cheers, Kevin

Help. What is this thing on my ORA red planet

Hello, It's difficult to determine anything from the picture but I will guess it is not serious due to the slow growth. If you don't want to cut the coral you can put a little super glue over the area. The coral will quickly overgrow the super glue. Cheers, Kevin

    Help please!

Hello, Glad to hear the coral is doing well. Caulastrea sp. will do well and expand nicely in light intensities as low as 50 PAR. With acclimation they can also do well but expand less and become much lighter colored under higher light intensities. Regards, Kevin

    Help please!

Hello, Did they become lighter in color after adding the new lights? If so try placing them in a shady spot for a few days and see if they expand and open up. If they are the same color before and after adding the new lights it could be something is eating them (like a fish). They are a coral...

    White tips on SPS

It hard to say from the picrures (I'm looking at them on my phone) but it does not appear to be serious. IMO. Kevin

    GSP maintenance... need to trim

Hello, Mrs Wages is a food grade calcium hydroxide which is equal to or more pure than products labeled kalkwasser, hydrated lime, builders lime, slack lime, or lime water. These are all calcium hydroxide Ca(OH)2 none of which is more powerful/concentrated than another. The only difference...

    Reproduction of Pocillapora damicornis

Hello, In your case it appears to be size related. IME when they reach about softball size or a little larger they begin to reproduce. The sides of Tridacna seem to be a favorite settlement area. I have a couple of colonies on the side of my T. gigas. Regards, Kevin

SPS (Small Polyp Stony Coral) Parameters

I haven't used LED lighting but the reports I've gotten from people who do say it can take up to 90 days for the corals to adjust. After the acclimation period they report the SPS corals are doing fine. Low nitrate, tannin, and DOC's will reduce the need for high intensity lighting and promote...

SPS (Small Polyp Stony Coral) Parameters

Hello, Color is not a determining factor in SPS coral placement. For corals that have been in captivity it is best to ask the owner what type lighting they have and what distance the coral was from the light source. A PAR meter is another way to help maintain a coral's color like it was when you...

Silver and pink pulsing xenia removal

Hello, I have had to remove thousands of colonies over the years. This is how I do it. I use a pair of tweezers and carefully peel them from where they attach to the rock. The tissue is tougher there and tends not to tear. That way you can remove all the tissue. Regards, Kevin

Friendly gift came with some special things

Hello, I believe they are sun corals (Tubastrea there are 6-7 species). They will need to be fed at least 2-3 times a week to do well as they are non-photosynthetic. Small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or finely ground raw shrimp applied to the extended tentacles will work well. Regards, Kevin

    montipora question

Hello I have several encrusting species that are touching. In the beginning a white line forms where they first make contact then very slowly (over years) one encroaches over the other. The growth of the losing coral more than makes up for the loss in other directions as these are such fast...

    Miami orchid pest I'd?

Hello, If it were mine I would cut the coral above the affected area and remount it making sure only living tissue was kept and none of the critters were left. That coral grows fairly fast so don't worry about cutting it back as it grows out quickly. Regards, Kevin

    Miami orchid pest I'd?

Hello, The picture is not clear enough to tell much. I think you are wise to do the dip anyway. Did you see anything in the container after the dip and were they gone afterwards? Regards, Kevin

    Problems with Stylophora

From the first picture if it was caused by lighting or water chemistry I would expect the Acropora behind it to be affected as well. Predation is my guess. Cheers, Kevin

    Helifungia recovery

Hello, The stings from the anemone can be fatal but if you still see some polyp extension and undamaged tissue after a few days it will likely recover. If the polyps are just retracted then recovery will be quick. If the tissue has to regrow it could be a couple of months to fully recover...

    Need info please

Hello, They are most likely a soft coral Protopalythoa sp. of the genus Palythoa. They're probably the most common soft coral to survive on newly imported live rock. Regards, Kevin

    Only one issue...

Very nice! The Tubinaria is awesome. Did you buy it large or have you had it a long time. Not a fast grower for sure. Cheers, Kevin
