That's what I think stu. It's pretty sad that endangered species are collected if they can be eaten aka profitable they are allowed to be taken. And if they are abundant yet can't be eaten Aka not profitable they are off limits:-/

The lamest thing is that back in 2010 Washington used to have the same collection bag limits and restrictions on "Unclassified" animals as Oregon does currently. When they decided to re-organize the way they manage their fisherys they started from a blank slate by having everthing re-classified from the ground up.

So of course all the sport and game fish were on the top of the list, and things like anemones and weird fish like Spiny Lumpsuckers were put at the bottom.

I'm about to fly to Alaska where its legal just to collect things I could easily get in the Puget Sound. Rediculous. I guess that means I'll just have to spend more time in the water down here in Oregon :D

all i need are pics hint hint

heh, same here...

I know its a tempting thought, but they treat the illegal taking of 10 anemones the same way as they treat the illegal taking of 10 salmon. To them poaching is poaching no matter how insignificant. Best bet for Washington peeps is to try and get the laws changed back to pre 2010 regulations.

It is definitely not worth the fines and possible jail time, trust me I looked into it ;) Thats why I fought so long to try and get a permit to collect 1 single species out of puget sound that is currently "unclassified". Basically until the WDFW has a butt load of money they wont even consider it.

Its much cheaper in the long run to take a little vacation down to Oregon and collect your 10 Unclassified Inverts Per Person Per Day if you are really thinking about doing a coldwater tank, or just him me up ;)

I had to go through all the licensing and permitting so that I could legally be able to sell my catch, but if you are doing it for personal use in Oregon you guys actually have more options of what you can take and where you can take it from.

And the trips down to oregon seem to get shorteder end shorter. I love it on the coast down there and is half the reason I make the trip. And Stu my family booked the trip to newport on dec 9-11 during the dec lowtide lol. So looks like I will be hitting Ocala St Park next week. At this point I am just looking for the choice pieces since my tank is getting full. But still only three pint sized fish lol. I'll be working alot of overtime when I get back so we can talk. that way I can call it a fish tank. lol. And Yes I am going to start looking into what it would take to "recomend a return to pre 2010 regulation" like get a petition going or something.

i wouldn't mind doing a diving trip down there, i'm sure I could find lots of interesting species.

Heres some more pics. Yep there is a pic of a fish.

OK I'm back from Seaside, Oregon with a few new critters. I got some new lined chitons that look great still trying to get pics of them. Most are hiding in the rocks, I also got a decorator crab and a few sitka shrimp. I also found a lime green fluffy sculpin and he's pretty cool little guy. And I also collected what I think is the coolest looking anemone I have ever seen:) But I am biased. lol. Here is the pics.

That fish is so cute!
So what is the green stuff in the first pic? Macro? or a critter. Almost looks like it has legs.

It's a collector crab. It used macro as camo. And the lime green fluffy sculpin has lots of character! And perfect for a nano:)

I was at petco yesterday and saw two catalina's hanging out in near hot tub conditions :p when I asked about them the lady said it looks like it has ich. I'm sorry it's not available. I told her it's because it's in warm water and that I would take my chances. She have me them 2 for 1. The ich was gone by the end of the day. Ich really hates 52degree water lol.
On another note I did my weekly broadcast feeding and it brought out a couple of the fish from hiding and I decided to take some pics.
The first is my saddleback gunnel. The orange markings are subtle but look great against the cream background.
