Good luck! The plumbing size, from what I understand, only needs to be doubled on the input if there are too many bends in the plumbing (or something real similar to that). The output, I've never heard of doubling it, but I have heard that some people decrease the size to get more pressure. With my closed loop using the mag950 in the link I posted, I used 1 inch for the input (and adapted it back to the 3/4 at the pump) and 3/4 for the output.

well just to be sure, i called Danner mfg. they said on the mag9, it has to be a minimum of 1 1/2 " on the intake..she said you could possibly drop the diameter of the outtake to 1 1/4" minimum if you wanted to....she said that it definately had to be doubled though on the intake for it to run right

Just thought I would mention I have a mag 9.5 running on 1" pvc and it performs just fine, I think pvc any bigger is too bulky on that size of tank JMO. I guess you could start with 1 1/4" and after you hit a T move to smaller pipe.

she said it would cause pressure to back up in the pump and it wouldn't run at its' best performance. i am going to paint the pvc with some non toxic paint so that it won't be noticable.

i know ...it really does.. i am going to try it... i may put on another union so that i can just detach right before the tee and trade it out for 1 1/4 if the 1 1/2 is too big

by the way, i see you're finally a human being, like the rest of us.

ROFL!! Yeah I figured since I exhausted RF's automatic profile and got to the top of the food chain as a Great White Shark, I figured I'd take it one step further:p

  I had to sit and stare at krish's post for a while to figure this one out:lol:

So krish, what comes next?

i installed a ball valve after the outtake in my setup. could i buy the mag12 and close the valve some if the flow is too much? this way i would have enough flow and could control it if it is too much

just talked to the guys at premium aquatics.. they told me to go with the mag12 and plumb the outputs back some at the end...maybe1" or 1 1/4". i went ahead and ordered the mag 12...wish me luck!!!

Good luck! I think you will be happier with the flow of the mag 12 than the others.
I use my Mag 9.5 with a ball valve and haven't had a problem. You should do fine.

Yeah, I've considered just going with a seio, but trying to think more long term.. as I've seen, powerheads do lose power over time, even with regular cleaning...plus it would be nice to get a cleaner look with less of them in there... I don't know though, not a lot of time right now to build a closed loop, maybe I'll wait with that project for my next tank? In which case, I would go drilled.. as of now, it would have to be over the top if I go that way. I would love to check out any link you may have?

Um, in an attempt to get back on subject, hey rhidien have you decided anything yet? What do you think you will go with?

Tim

well i bought the mag12 and used the 1 1/2" pipe on the intake and i started the outtake with 1 1/4" and ended it with 1" outflows

may have a problem..i forgot that the intake pipe and the outtake pipe leaving the aquarium have to curve around each other and i may not have enough room between the tank and the wall for them to fit. i may have to run the intake along the side if my tank...there is enough room for it and it will be pretty much out of sight...hopefully i don't have to do this because i will have to make some modifications to my piping...it is put together, but not glued or taped yet
