Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

That looks nice man! It's different! It almost looks like shelves on a reef! Ok now, get some color in there(LOL) I get teased about corals all the time so it's my turn(LOL) Just kidding...Take your time man. You've been patient thus far:)

very nice pictures and nice job with the rocks !!
i really like the aquascaping .
i take it as you like your tang dood :)

Oh yea! My wife didn't yell at me when i told her how much I paid for it LOL

Thanks Gabby! I put alot of effort into the rock work.

By the way, I can't change my mind, I epoxy'ed the rock. I liked it so much I want it to stay that way.

Really nice Ron! The rockwork IS really nice! It's like you have reef shelf's! You've done really well man...I think I need to re-aquascape again!:p

you know Ron, i think it's gonna be easier to put corals on your rock :) ... seriously wish i could do that with my rocks.

Thanks Guys,

Krish, maybe if you give your rock a dirty look it will change on its own. I mean it is live rock. It has to know the routine by now :D

Gabby you can achieve this look as well. I just took a trip to Ikea.

A little update here,

Well, as much as I love my Naso, I think I am going to give him/her up. I know that at the size he/she is now I can keep him/her for a while. But, the longer I keep him/her the more attached I will be.

The Naso is going to be going to a 600g reef tank at my work. Atleast the fish can grow to it's natural size without trouble and hopefully will beat the snot out of my bosses Sohal. The tank at work has a ton of places to hide and swim so I am not to worried about them getting at eachother. On the plus side. The Sohal isn't in it yet. So we will beable to introduce the Naso first then the Sohal later.

Anyone have any recommendations for a smaller unpopular good looking tang? Or maybe some suggestions on fish of like sizes that are great to look at.

I have in my tank right now:

3 A. Ocellaris
1 Cleaner Wrasse

Going to get:

2 Clown goby's
2 Watchman Goby's
and some shrimp.

Hey, what a suprise my 2 favorite people chime in :D

I can always count on you guys, thanks!

Krish, the tank is going through a hair algae phase. Kinda gettin me frustrated. At the same time My Corals are doing freakin amazing. The polyps on just about all my corals have doubled in size. My Blastomussa has 6 new polyps on each stem coming out. (hopefuly they will).

But one thing is bugging me. My water seems to be cloudy. It's not dirty, My Parameters are great.

PH 8.3
DKH 9
Ca 390
Mg 1380
Nitrite 0
Ammonia 0
Nitrate 2 (could be the cause of algae)
Phosphate 0
Redox/ORP 395
Salinity 1.026 (tested using a proven calibrated probe and controller)

I'll have to look up the Mimic Tang I'm also looking at Rabitfish aswell. I just want something big and pretty. Not to big though :p I was hoping more people might chime in here.

How would Blue Hippo Tangs do?

Fortunately for me, I had only 2 rocks that started to get hair algae on it, but I turned the flow away from it and my Yellow tang must have taken care of it because he picks on the rocks all day. What I personally did while cycling was run a light over my sump on an alternate photo period that was more watts per gal than my main display, on more hours than my main display and on an alternate photoperiod than my main display. What that did was any cycle that took place in my tank (cyno etc) happened in the sump where the conditions were more suited for it to grow. That way, it never really grew in the main disply. Seems to work much better that way (atleast I don't have to look at it as much:))

About the tank being cloudy, I know with the freshwater tanks I've had over th years, came from bacteria blooms during cycling, not sure if it is the same here...Other than that...Not sure. Maybe run some carbon if you aren't running any or do a good water change to dilute it a bit or you could just wait it out and see if it will just cycle out:)

How would Blue Hippo Tangs do?

Not sure man, but I've always wanted one, but could never get it. They seem to be cool tangs. My friend had a powderblue tang that was just simply amazing!

Your ca isn't too much to worry about but you could bump it witha little turbo ca, everyting else seems in check.

also your salinity.

Because it puts a stop on all the arguing of what salinity tester is good or bad and tells you where your reef tank really is. As I brought up before many are using refracts and this solution will let you calibrated the refract so it is as if it is measuring the refractive index of seawater. Your refracts are , say, calibrated with a 3.5 % solution of NaCl, which means right out of the box it is not reading right for seawater. So when someone says it reads, 3.5 %, 35 ppt or 1.026, "it is perfect" it is actually reading to low. I have said when using refracts just up it 1 unit, so it reads 1.027, which = about 1.026 NSW. The is just a rounded of value, not exact and the calibration solution will put you right on the noise. Know one can argue with you
biggrin.gif
Now go make comparisons to SG meters, to see where they are at. People ASSUME because it is a refract it must be right on, not so.

You can do the same with a SG meter or a conductivity meter. You can always go to the local drug store and get them to do it

So now, if everyone did this, we would know where the h--- we are at when talking "what is your salinity"

Thanks Krish,

I am running a Phosban reactor with carbon instead of Phos. You maybe right about the water cloudiness though. I may wait it out. My Naso seems to like to pick away at the hair algae. It's not that it is alot of it and it's only on one half of my tank. My boss is making a clean up crew order so I'll grab more snails then.

I used calibration fluid to calibrate my probe after I had it in my sump for 4 days. I tested the fluid with a refractometer (because temperature is a determining factor as well.) I am very confidant that my Salinity is very accurate. I get my boss to test my water biweekly.
