Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

Vicki - the short and simple answer to your questions, at least for this last year, would be Eric. His donations to the club are what kept us a float and allows us to spend this kind of money on the raffle. I havent talked to a single sponser that was exicted about "donating" anything. Somewhere, they got this idea of "what does the club do for me." Not sure what the best answer is. I am still awaiting a little direction here as i am not the one holding the check book.

The answer to that is introduce new people to your store. Word of mouth from educated people in hobby is priceless.

Ok, that got me fired up. Randy, last year you posted sales from sponsors. I have not heard any negative talk. I posted a thread on Puget Sound site below. Randy if you want to remove it, that is fine. I will understand. Times are tuff but we work together with LFS. The sad thing is that we do it more than they know of.

I do have to take Cy out of this general statement that I made. He stepped right up and sent me a list without me committing to anything with him.

If someone could get a hold of Randy, that would be great. There are a ton of things up in the air right now and we are in crunch time.

I will donate $100.00 to the club.

Yes , Please let me know what i can do to help anyone. Once i get the program and start loading the data i will be buried for a few days. But im still willing to help....

I have a barely used auto feeder I can donate to the used item raffle if we go that way. My monetary donation will be through raffle. I could use 50% off of the sump build and plan to buy a lot of tickets for that.

What is the process for soliciting new sponsors? Last year I had asked Tropical Fish World in Sumner if they were sponsors of PSAS and they said they had not heard of it. I can try to get them on board and see if they would like to donate to the picnic, if I know the correct process.

Thanks,

Is anyone else available during the day to make some phone calls to sponsors??? I've been swamped during the day and it looks like I'll have the same kind of schedule this week...

Thats very kind of you bob!! I still need people to call sponsors, so if your up for asking for donations send me a note...

The following sponsors still need to be contacted and asked for donations. Steven and I can't do all the calling alone....

Ocean Reef
The Wild Side
Saltwater City
Aquatic Dreams
Denny's pet World
and any others that haven't been listed...

I will contact the Wild Side on Friday (my work from home day), they are close enough that if they make a donation I can pick up the item(s).

I just called " The Wildside" and left my name and cell number
I will try a couple of others while im at lunch

Bob

I just called " Ocean Reef" and left a message.

I talked with Saltwater Reef also, he will call me back

So for the event itself:
Do we have a BBQ and cook lined up?

Who will be shopping for the food? I have a Costco Card so could do that if I new how much and what we wanted.

I am tentatively planning on handling the raffle tickets, if that is OK. I was planning on bringing my fold up table and a chair. I also have some coffee cans (plastic) that I can set-up to hold tickets if we are going ahead with the idea of people putting their tickets towards a specific larger valued item. I also thought if I was going to sit at a table and sell tickets I would also have a can just for any donation people wanted to make. I am willing to beg  for donations if needed.

It kinda of sounds like the club has been running on a very tight budget, and if I am reading correctly, only broke even on the fundraiser picnic last year. I think it would be nice to try to break out of that mold and get some money behind the club. Has raising the price of the membership ever been discussed? I know my membership card has saved me at least $100 in discounts at Barrier Reef, in spite of the fact that I only joined in October. I think the membership cost is very low considering what the member gets from it, I know I would be willing to pay more and I am sure many others would also.

I know we are focused on the BBQ now but would like to suggest we get together as a group and brainstorm some ideas, maybe get a tentitave schedule put together etc. Would it be possible for us to maybe get together right after the picnic. I know I have some ideas and Bob also had some ideas and all of this can be difficult to discuss back and forth through electronics means. Face to face can be so much easier and quicker.

Eric has a BBQ at the shop. I have done the shopping in the past at costco, but you are more the welcome to take that job on :D

a donation bucket is a great idea!!

Thats great about Jason, we will definatly get him a membership card.

Steven and I have discussed the membership fees for next year. we were thinking of getting rid of the family membership and making it a flat $30 member fee. and stress the fact that you can bring friends and family...then if those friends like the meeting they can join themselfs, if they want.

There is a possibility that I might not be attending the BBQ this year. My best friend called me last night... his Father was driving back to WA from back east and got sick. He is in Nevada right now and the dr's there and here won't let him drive or fly back himself. He asked if I could fly down with him and help drive his dad back home. I hate to have to miss this event, but will put my friendship and his family before this hobby.

I think its a great idea if all the BOD can stick around after the BBQ to discuss the years events, and policy.... I dont believe it will be imparitive for me to be there for that, since Steven will be the new President. I'll have my phone with me (service willing) if you need any consulting from me.

I will let you all know for sure if either way, as soon as I know....

Please send out Evites again. I am getting pms from people not getting evites. A few regulars. One being herefishymike. Thank you.
Ed

So are we planning on me doing the shopping? If so what are we going to need, I cannot remember if we had discussed a menu. I see we have 16 yeses on the e-vite and 4 maybes. How accurate of a count do you usually get from the e-vite?
