ATO stuck. Hit its failsafe, but not before dumping ~2.5 gallons of kalk topoff into the tank. Picture is after the first 5g water change...

Coral seems fine, and my snails are wandering around, but I haven't seen either of the fish yet. :(

Well, my LMB is accounted for. Still haven't seen the orchid dottyback.

Changed ~18 gallons of water and things are looking ok, other than a little hazy.

Added fresh carbon and I'll see how it goes I guess.

Well hope you can resolve it, I think this is why my ATO will be just Ro/DI & I'll somehow separately control the Kalk but then I'll just get a tank with HYPO conditions in a rapid manner, don't know which would be better really, hope I can tweak it to just a little over & not so much at once.

Yeah, I've been mulling this over as well. The tank is really too small (and not enough hard coral load) to justify a small calcium reactor, so kalk is really it. I think if you have a cutoff switch much closer to the normal water level, things are pretty safe as well. This is the first time the second switch has ever engaged, its just much higher than I thought it would end up being.

On the plus side, everything in my tank looks pretty happy today. Both fish are wandering around, and other than everything being somewhat whitish, the water looks pretty clear now.

Good to hear things are on the mend. On my ATO, its water only... but I did install a 2nd cut-off switch this time, so I "shouldn't" get more than a 3-gallon swing (hopefully) if anything happens. On my system, that shouldn't harm anything. *finger's crossed*

I had that same thing happen to me, and the PH shot up to 11.8
if you haven't check it yet it could be high.

I dosed vinegar slowly last night to bright the pH back down measurably when I started doing the water changes. Its 8.3 currently.
