Charlie, There is always room for you my friend.

Tike, you'll love it....I am completely sold on cube tanks now that I have this one.

Just thought I'd chime in real quick and say that things are looking good Reed! Good to see you set up another tank. :)

Hey let us know if there is anything you need!
You guys already have....one of the corals in there is from you....thanks. I'm sure i will be back for some other things.

Reed, are you going to be strictly sps, or are we building a garden?
I am going mainly SPS, but I love my yellow figi leather and I might need a hammer or frogspawn as well (plus some clams of course). So a controlled garden I guess. My longer term vision is that I will grow out some of the SPS and then start to thin them out to only have 2 or 3 big colonies.

Krish, thanks man. Appreciate you posting. How you holding up in the hurricane season?

He's still posting!!!!! That in itself is a good sign.

Reed, There is a guy over here that is fragging a hammer the size of a basketball, would you want me to grab a piece and grow it out?

Charlie, that would be great if you felt so inclined. By the time you trek back out here again I am certain I will have something you will want (probably have to pry you away from the tank and get the clippers from you). Thanks man!!!

Looking good! Ill look forward to seeing it in person some day.
Maybe I should put some air in my bicycle tires for the event. ;)

OK folks, you can see the setup from the pics on page 1 of the post. My question to you is what would be your suggestions for flow in this tank? I have done a lot of different things over the years in tanks, but they were all in rectangular tanks. With the cube water flows completely different and I am struggling a bit to get good flow throughout the tank. At this point I want to stick with powerhead type flow as I like the tank to be quiet and I have yet to have a quiet external pump to use for a closed loop.

If you can. You can also get a sea swirl or wavy sea and attatch a k4 to it and that should give you some good random flow or better yet 2 of that set up one on each corner and I think you would get excellent flow.

Hey those Koralia's look great! Cubes are a pain for getting a proper flow pattern! Should we look into getting a four way koralia wave maker?;)

2 Tunze of your choice in the back corners on one of their controllers. I think, depending on the Tunze, and whatever cycle you put them on, the opportunities are endless.
Charlie, I was originally looking at the Tunze option, but it would be close to $1K for the setup you are talking about and that seems like a complete rip off to me. I know they are a solid product, but they are overpriced and I can't bring myself to support that practice. For less money I can get 2 vortech pumps that offer more options and more current technology.

Sarang, I used to run the seaswirls, but after an electric shock event I am a little shy of going back. As you know, the way this tank is I really can't put anything through the top in the corners so your proposal really can't be done.

cali, I like the Koralias for price, size, low power, and a variety of other things. my only concern at this point is how many will it take to get enough flow in the tank. I have 2 3's, a 4 and a seio M1100 in there now and I still don't see the flow I would like. I don't want a tank of powerheads, but rather a tank of corals with some powerheads.

What are peoples thoughts on the vortech pump for a tank this size. Could I get away with just one in the back middle? I know I have seen another cube on reeffrontiers running 2 of them, but man that seems like a lot.

Keep the ideas coming. I appreciate all of them.

Reed,
I just want to say I am happy you were here in the past all the things you have done for PSAS. You made it a good place for all. People do not forget. I am very happy to see you back.

Hey Reed :)

Can you explain in a little more detail where you feel the flow is falling short and what you dont like about it?

One thought that came to mind: In the past you have run flow through locline nozzles which focus the flow directionaly. to this end the flow travels farther with more velocity, but not necesarily moving more water. I'm wondering if you are missing that velocity and travel distance.. It is likely with all those PH's you are getting a ton of flow, but with less visual disturbance. Are you seeing many deadzones? Can you kick up a little detritus and watch the flow patterns?

BTW: of course I agree with ED :) You Rock!

OK, let me clarify a bit. I am certainly moving water in the tank. No doubt about that. The velocity is quite low (which I have very little problem with since that is what corals can handle most of the time). Because I have rock in the tank I have a large dead spot in the middle of the tank on the bottom that is a detritus collector. I also have dead spots around the edges of the tank . Basically, most of the floor of the tank has limited movement. I can get movement on the edges, but I sacrifice movement in the top of the tank then. It's the old "whack a mole" game.

Oh sure, make it tough on me! :)

Well... Here's a thought. To maintain low turnover through the sump but introduce vastly improved flow dynamics/velocity/reach: Beef that Mag up to the smallest preasure rated pump capable of driving a Penductor. I know a guy ;) that can spare a penductor. The drawback as you know is in the noise department though at this size it may not be as big a factor as you think. With the headpreassure of the penductor(s) you will still maintain that slow sump through-put.

Recommendations:
Pan World
50PX-X 1110gph 13' - push one OK
100PX-X 1270gph 13' - Drive one, or push 2 OK

I'm pretty sure I'm running the 100PX right now, so you can check it out when your in the neighborhood. Heck, lets goof off and hook up a penductor to it on my agressive tank and watch the lion race the eels for some Krill :) lol
