Well I finished up the hanging canes last night and they turned out just as I had hoped. I have to admit they just dont do it for me. They look great but out of place, almost a different style. So into the burn pile and back to the drawing board to come up with another idea.

Ya and I have about 15 hrs into laminating little strips. I'm going to hold them up sidedown tonight. Maybe they would look better as big hooks going up rather than a cane going down. I'd be much happier if the darn thing would just levitate over the tank and the electricity went through the air.

How about off the wall? Straight out so you don't see it at eye level? might need re bar inside though for strength.

I thought about that but with it being wood and 5/8 thick after the 2 ballast fans, wire and lights it will probably be pretty heavy. Ive got an idea I'm going to give a shot this evening with the canes. If that doesnt look the way I want then the canes will be junk and I'm just going to use cables from the ceiling. I'm more in the get it done mood. Ive spent way to much time on the lights already. It will look great with the wood contrast it should pull your eyes away from the cable.

I'm making some more head way and finished the end panels and hope to have the stand standing on it own by next week-end. You cant really see it in the pics but the ends have a 3" taper which will be much more visable when the top goes on.

The wood looks awesome. I like the band in the center a lot. I see the taper. You did that with just the scraper?

I cut the taper on the table saw. Everything else is finished off with the scraper.

I spent a chunk of today cutting dados and slicing up panels. Panels can be a bit of a task in a small shop even with a panel saw.
I still need to trim the bottom and add the hardwood. You can see the space below the bottom. This area will have two drawers to house the electronics.

A little more all cut and ready for shaping and assembly. Got a little start on the sump.
Sweet dude! So you are skinning the sump in wood also? I am a little confused about the second from top picture.
