    Advise on a 180 gallon setup

    Reeflo makes great return and closed loop pumps. Koralia makes some nice affordable powerheads that can be controlled via controllers or wave makers. Lighting you're either looking at metal halide or T-5 flourescent. I really like having an aquacontroller. Makes having a large tank much easier...

    how come no one told me this hobby cost so much!

    Most of the time patience and planning in this hobby saves a lot of money. Plan ahead and buy online (like your unions and bulkheads- way cheaper) or on equipment look for "previousely loved" equipment to save some coin. Now if I could only practice what I'm preachin.

    What type of bio pellets? Are they in a media bag in your sump or in a reactor?

    Swap bulbs and test. Maybe fuse or bad ballast. But first isolate the problem.

    Marlin, It's not going to hurt a thing. It just won't pull as much of the "gunk" out as an appropriate sized skimmer.

    Yes but does it apply to "all growing applications" like LED? This has killed aquarium led progress and choices.

    As far as power goes, if your planning on going LED's, you won't see a huge spike. The reeflo darts are 3600gph at like 140 watts of power and 2 of those will be plenty for you. I'd look into buying a back-up dart just in case one goes down or loses a seal. They are great pumps but a back-up is...

    They are sharing a BTA. They have all the room in the world to be apart from each other but they are choosing to be together. I just get the song "Ebony and Ivory" stuck in my head thinking about it :-)

    bta's don't like too much flow. How much are they getting? is there a lower flow area in your tank? Also it may take the new one some time to adjust.

    Sickly hammer

    So I wnet ahead and rubber banded the loose peice to the skeleton. It's not pinching,just holding so flow won't tear it off. High flow may help?
