    Sailfin Sick

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to an update for you all. He is getting much better without any real signs that anything was wrong expect maybe stress. So I got him calmed down and the redness gone and he's even eating like he used to. Still no signs of actual sores or leasons, so I...

    Sailfin Sick

For what ever reason He seems tobe coming around. Actually out again and eating. The redness has deminished and he is eating again. I just completed the second water change, which tells me it probably had something to do with the last water change. Only thing I can't explain is why nothing...

    Sailfin Sick

Sorry for the confusion Steve, It isn't a Q tank, I started it as a softy tank then saw this fish at LPS, I wasn't ever going to put fish in it but I thought it would be a good place to start himout and then move to 150gal later. The painted description you gave almost perfectly discribes what...

    Sailfin Sick

Steve, I've tried to watch himallday and be able to get a photo of him but he isn't cooperating. The photo Isawon that link showed more of a red spot, My tang actually has no spots but looks almost tinted on the back half of him. You might be right in the tank size causing it as well as the...

    Sailfin Sick

I fully understand Steve, I have been putting off the meter far too long now. Exp 08-2007, color was a pretty light green but darker than the 8.0 nothing has been added to the tank since his introduction, he has been eating some of the macro that got loose into the tank but mostly the nori. He...

    Sailfin Sick

One more thing I just found a salifert test kit for PH and it tested out at somewhere between 8.0 and 8.3. close to middle of the road so I would say 8.2 maybe. I think thats about right but not real sure about accuracy of the test kit, it is rather old, maybe a year old. Duane

    Sailfin Sick

Steve, Thanks foryour time. I fully understand this size tank is way tosmall for an adult fish. It was only a temperary arrangement till he grew a bit. He is only about 2.5" head to tail. ca - 420 Kh - 2.89 Ph - honestly don't have a kit to test for. I know I should have a meter but haven't...

    Sailfin Sick

Thanks Niki, A little background, this fish is in a 50gal tank by himself. Onlything with himis a few crabs, snails, and soft corals. all the parameters are pretty much in the ball park except the kalk dipped a little to 2.89. He is actually getting worse by the minute and hope he makes it...

    Sailfin Sick

Question for anyone, I've had a sailfin tang now for about 5-6 weeks and he was doing very well for a long time until the last couple days when he has started to thrash himself around the tank. I can't see any reason or obvious signs of illness and was wonderign if anyone hase ever seen this...

    Dumb questions

:) sometimes no matter how stupid one feels there is always someone else a little slower :) RO/DI = reverse osmosis / de-ionized and yes you are right in thinking it has to do with water. RO/DI is basically water with no, or as close to no as we can get it, impurities. LFS = Local Fish Store...

    Fish food choices

I actually use a "recipe" I got from Kevin. It's a mix of formula 1, freeze dried planton, seaweed selects red and green, garlic, and some kind of shrimp or clam fish love it but I do have to be careful not to overfeed Duane

    135 gallon 24' tall

Volivier, The light you have would work well with most everything except the acros. I started out with a simular light and soon changed over to MH's and found that everything like them much better. If I had it to do over I wouldn't have spent so much money and would have...

    135 gallon 24' tall

Personally I think I would go with 2 250w 10k's with actinic suppliment. It's what I'm actually running and working pretty well for me. Only thing list I don't have in my tank is a brain. But from my understanding they like light as well. JMHO Duane

    Are HQI as Good??

I had two colts initially under the MH's for a long time. The large on e loved the Mh's but the other smaller one had a hard time with them. Due to space and other concerns I finally moved both to a smaller 55gal tank with PC's and both are doing great. I think it depends on intensity of light...

    Are HQI as Good??

Here's an over view of my lighting cycle. And the lights I use. 2/250w Ushio 10k MH's and 1 115w actinics 1 actinic comes on at 9:30am then 10:00 the other comes on. At 11:00 both MH's come on. MH's go out at 9pm, 1 actinic at 9:30 the other at 10:00 11:00pm moon lights on and off at 8:30am...

    Lighting problem

With the balast and fixture being a year old you night want to pull it apart and look for corrosion where where ever there is a connection in the wiring. Lots of times they will use wire nuts to tie the two ends and power together. With lots of condesation all you might have to do is stip the...

    Lighting problem

With them only being 4 months old I would tend to think the bulbs are okay but that leaves two other possiblities in my mind. 1) a bad connection in wiring to sockets or even a loose socket that isn't keeping the bulb tight 2) May even be a heat issue with the balast. is there a fan in your...

    Are HQI as Good??

Not sure if the rust colored algea is normal or not but when my lights started to drop off due to old age I started to get the algea your talking about. I have found if I keep my snail population up they do a good job taking care of it but don't let it get ahead of the population of snails or it...
