    Recommendations on UV sterilizer

Sure. The main problem is algea. That brown film growing on the glass. The phosphates don't show high, but I suspect my test kit is not reliable. Nitrates, etc are under control. No parasites.

    Recommendations on UV sterilizer

Money is not an issue. I mean, I don't want to spend over the odds, but I'm willing to invest in one.

    Recommendations on UV sterilizer

I'm planning on buying a UV sterilizer. Any recommendations for a 125 gal tank? The main reason why I'm looking for one is because I've been over feeding because I have a Moorish Idol in my tank. I increased my water changes, but I want something else to help. Maybe an ozonizer would be better?

    Naso tang not eating

My naso tang stopped eating in the last few days. He swims by the food and eats a flake here and there, but definitely not enough for his size (5+ in) and in comparison to the voracious eater he used to be. All the other fish are behaving normally and I don't recognize any sign of disease in...

    anemome question

I had a carpet anemone for a while that ate my almost 5" naso tang. It seems that if it's fed a lot it won't distub the fish, but I will NEVER take the risk again. My RBTA was over 15" long before splitting and never did anything.

Where to have a canopy custom made in the Seattle area?

My main concern is overheating, though it will be a tight fit on the sides too. This is the fixture I have: http://www.petsolutions.com/Outer+Orbit+HQI+Fixture-I-42901040-I-C-33-C-.aspx Not having to change it would be great!

Where to have a canopy custom made in the Seattle area?

I'm thinking of buying a canopy for my 125 tank, so can someone recommend places where I can have one custom made so match my stand? By the way, I currently have one of those light fixtures that rest on top of the tank (Orbit). I know I will probably have to change my fixture if I get a canopy...

    almost a complete loss

Yeah, not everybody can have a generator at home because of space and building regulations. OK, so maybe people not in houses shouldn't have tanks. But then again, it's ridiculous to have power out for more than 12 hours. They knew the storm was coming and didn't prepare ahead of it. I'm glad I...

    almost a complete loss

Sorry to hear about it. My power is back now for over 12 hours and the tank is recovering. I "only" lost a flame angel and a cleaner shrimp. Coral wise, I lost some of my xenia, but I consider myself lucky given I have acros, a clam, RBTA and more sensitive fish like powder blue and naso tangs...

    Need help with power outage

Thanks for the reply. Crisis adverted. I got my power back just after midnight, over 48 hours later. I have everything on now and my losses seem to be limited to those of the first 10-12 hours. Phew.... that was a close one.

    Need help with power outage

I couldn't find a generator and I'm not sure if that's an option cause I'm in a condo. They may not be allowed or will be too loud.

    Need help with power outage

Thanks for the advice! The car batteries are helping a lot, but I haven't tested my ph yet. Will do that when I get home. The fish are doing fine now. A few were lying on their side in the beginning by they have been very well since I started to add air to the water. So the light isn't a big...

    Need help with power outage

I have been without power for the past 48 hours now. I've been struggling to keep my tank alive. In the first 12 hours I lost my flame angel and a cleaner shrimp. I started to use a pint glass to take water out and put it back in to make bubbles. By the end of this I will have really strong...

    Secret for crystal clear water

I've been reading about how to remove those tiny particles from the water in my tank and the more I read the more confused I get. Opinions seem to vary a lot, so I figured I would ask here and see what you guys think. Will an ozonizer, UV sterilizer or carbon resolve the problem? Which of them...

    stupid freaking heat!!!!!!!!

If your tank is too big you will need a lot of ice cold water to reduce the temp of the tank water. Still, it's better than nothing.

    stupid freaking heat!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry to hear that, Larry. Especially with all the attention you put into those tanks. I put a portable fan blowing on the surface of the water and it helped reduce the heating effect of the lights. I also put plastic bottles with frozen water in the sump and managed to keep the water under...
