    First Workshop

I'm not sure what blue thing you are referring to mike, but unrelated...I do have a very special sequin thong hanging proudly in my fishroom. LOL And hey, I may be a known fish nerd, but I'm not wealthy; I'm here to win that cool tank and stand too ;) Good to see y'all, my friends. Always love...

    pods eating my zoos

after an infection has run its course, USUALLY the matter is done though it may flare again if another unquarantined zooanthid or otherwise in-tank stressed coral gives it the chance in the coming weeks. Focus on water quality : water changes and if possible ozone (or other means of raising...

    pods eating my zoos

at worst... the pods are scavenging a dead/dying mass. It is extremely unlikely they are causative of the problem. Please consider pulling your sick specimen to a QT tank for better address (dips/meds) or at least not infect the tank any more/longer (damage control at this point).

    Looking For A Id

not possible... the specimen described has a "foot" (ala anemone) and Blastomussa is a stony coral. Many cnidarian tentacles look similar... as you noticed between these distantly related examples/comparisons. The image and info here are just too scant here to make anything more than a pot shot...

    Looking For A Id

do you have any idea of its origin? Atlantic or Pacific for starters?

    Sun Coral Propagation

target feed each polyp 3-5 times weekly bare minimum. More for growth and spawning.

How to target feed LPS with agressive eaters in tank?

if you are really diligent about hand feeding, there are a range of tips and tricks. but most everyone gets tired/busy/lazy over time and the corals suffer (dwindle and may slowly starve to death over a year or even +2 before attrition wins). The scary part is you might not recognize the...

    The Hoover Nudi

heehee... sweet smell or not, please make a habit of only picking up things (particularly chemically noxious, toothless, spineless things :)) with GLOVED hands, my friend. I really dont want to read about your "nudibranch hospital trip" thread ;)

Any Idea what this LPS is?

I cant see the coralites well enough to even make an educated guess. Sorry, my friend. Pic IDs are pot shots at best.

Sun Coral not wanting to feed.....

very good to hear, my friend. The shrimp juice is a foolproof trick for all but the almost dead Tubastrea to get them to resume feeding. As for the black suns... many different morphs (and there are other species) but most all in the hobby trade are Tubastrea micrantha. Thats the tricky (OK...

    Seeking ID.

heehee... cant even afford child labor. 2 of 3 hobby publications lose money and the one that profits takes years to break even before making dough. For me to be able to afford hiring my first employee... I need to license my name, repackage kalkwassrer... put a few grains of Strontium Hex in a...

Sun Coral not wanting to feed.....

the black sun coral (Tubastrea micrantha) should not be collected for aquarium use and has no prayer of living in any aquarium for more than a matter of some months (less than a year almost without exception... rare). They require EXTREME currents so strong it would tear the tissue off of most...

    Seeking ID.

the irony is that I got out of slinging distributor volumes of corals (just a few dollars a piece in multi-hundreds lots) each week because I was getting weary of wielding a few thousand pounds of water in boxes by hand truck each week.... writing and photography seemed like a logical...

Removing DSB with heavy Hydrogen Sulfide Blackness.

indeed the algae next to the glass commonly gets all types of algae in time. You would had to have obscenely neglected your DSB to get it that black anywhere else (from anoxic conditions) let along throughout. Its simple enough to test: take a rigid plastic tube (undergravel filter tube from...

    Seeking ID.

cheers, my friend :) I am peeking out of my hermitage :p Actually out from under a pile of boxes of books/mags to ship. I'm getting old and need a job with less lifting :D

    Sun Coral Propagation

regular feeding will spur it to planulate asexually in time. Until then, yes... extratentacular budding (growing outward) will be observed)

    Question about lighting

you cant choose your lighting before you list your prospective corals my friend... how else will you know and address what they need? It varies widely.

    Do Berghia eat Majano's

they only flare/flourish when they are fed. If they boom, then there is a problem in the tank with weak water changes, poor skimming, weak water flow, etc (accumulated nutrients). Until that is taken care of... any fix will be temporary (they will return with a vengeance). many folks have a few...

    Do Berghia eat Majano's

Ive tried it... and a number of other cnidarians. The "Berghia" (actually Aeolidiella) that we have in the hobby are strict about Aiptasia.
