The natural look will be nice too! I am enjoying watching the shots taken at you by your fellow hobbest/friends. That's what good forum family is all about:) They will enjoy what you have already seen and you will enjoy what i have already seen:)

Are you doing egg crate frag racks? What's next?

Got to have something to set the frags on, or in.
Thanks to Kevin I dont have to look at white eggcrt. Thanks man.
I wanted three levels different levels to choose from when I start filling the tank. It will be 4 levels counting the bottom of the tank.

The tallest one will be over the spinner

I have a thick skin! I can dish it out to most here at RF without worry that they will take offense. I inturn will laugh with them when they poke at me.
Yea but not your normal frag rack. Mine has a hole in it for water flow!! LOL

I must give a very large THANK YOU to Mike ( Mojo ). He was generous enough to help me out with the lighting needs of this Frag Tank.

Thanks a bunch Mike. I owe you one, or two??? LOL

Since he went the LED rout for is Beast II, he had an extra 400 HQI light collecting dust. I blew the dust off and whipped it down. Ready to go.

I knew I was going to hang it from above, but wasnt sure how or with what. When I had this conversation with Kevin he offered up a pulley rig that is designed to hang a bicycle from the rafters. Thanks Kevin!!
It took a little of figuring out, but Kevin and I got it mounted up above the tank. We stepped back to look at our handy work, and pat ourselves on the back for a job well done.
I must say there will be NO pics of this hanging system. We did have a good laugh!!! LOL
I got up this morning and headed to HD for some cable and misc hardware.

I got hit on the side of the head with the KISS method.

Thanks Kevin, and Mike.

I left some extra cable. Never know. (plan-B-)

It hangs about 22'' above the water level

Looking great. That came together fast in the end. The eggcate "trump tower" actually looks real cool with lots of realestate for frags.

I knew as soon as I posted the pic of the jig, that you would be rolling your eyes, and shaking your head.
If in the future it quits spinning due to who knows what. I will plug in some lock line.

Hey I didnt say anything!!!! But if we blacked out a couple of teeth and put that on your head!!! man I would pay money for that.

looking good buddy

Mojo

Lookin good Dave, I am really excited to see this coming together. I like the look of the black crate too, doesnt attract your attention like white would.

kev, did you paint it or find black eggcrate?

Nothing is free these days!!! LOL

The egg crate can be bought black. I think at BRS

I think the tank will have a black bottom, and two black sides. Only two viewing faces. Should help the colors pop!!

1. that halide and reflector setup was the greatest thing when I first took my break.
2. you make the best DIY stuff. I love these threads.
3. I HAVE TO SEE THIS THING SPIN> ANY LINKS?

Thanks Brad,
I cannot take credit for the spinny thing. A fellow reefer here at RF sent me a couple of them to play with.

The halide will work out great for a while. I have a LED build planed for this tank.

Sorry no link to the spinny thing in motion.
I will recruit Eric (eww) to take one so I can show it off when the build is complete.

Working on an ATO now. Pics up soon

+1 I love reading your DIY Dave. Always something interesting.

Thanks Grunt,
I enjoy sharing my sometimes " not so normal " builds here. I try to think outside of the box most of the time. Then there are somethings you shouldnt change because it works so well.
I am sure alot of people will shake their heads and roll their eye at some of my ideas, then again some will say why didnt I think of that.

Cant wait to start the 220 gal build. I have a few ideas to make it a true custom!

Well I cant wait any longer. LOL
I will be making a wood cover for the filter area. I want to keep the lite off the skimmer and ATO, and out of the back chamber.

I did a trade with Kevin for the HOB skimmer. It is the SWC Mini Hot I wont use it for a while yet. In the center is the ATO switches, one main and one back up. Also pictured is the Aqua Clear 70 full of carbon.

I know I will hear about this next pic! SAND!! (crushed coral) Yes it is in a frag tank. I bought a veggie tray at Wal-mart and cut it up. The chambers are about 3/4'' deep. It will keep the sand were I want it.
