Yep....a good choker chain is all that is needed.....I find that when I want something done, all I have to do is point....;)

Thanks guys. We are trying to do it as right as we can so it lasts for years to come.

Thanks for the photo fix.
I wondered how long it would be before your dinning room table turned into a workbench. LOL Maybe if you get rid of some of those empty aquarium equipment boxes littering your garage you would be able to walk around the workbench out there. LOLOL.

Looks like you are going to have an awesome fixture for your reef. You are doing a great job. Did you get your driver snafoo worked out?/

From what I see above you are ready to cut up your hood, again. Let me know when you need to mod the hood. Shouldnt take more than a couple of hours.

BTW how many of those little wires did you drop on the floor as you were doing your soldering?

FUNNY MAN you are... FYI the Dining Room table only became a work bench because a guest (Stuart) came over and helped out and I didn't want to subject him to the 30* temps in the garage... and the garage was a mess... again. Not sure which snafoo you are referring to on the drivers but since we finally got all the LED's to fire we must have worked it out somehow. The hood is definitely ready to be cut so how about Sunday morning around 10:00am??? I will make sure the garage door is open for you. Just don't make any noise so Gavin doesn't know you are here... He might think you're Santa or something. Oh... and you know how many of those wires I dropped buddy. You've been around long enough to know that :D.

Sunday morning sounds great, but I was thinking more like about 5am. LOL.
do you think we can do it at your place? I am not real sure if we need to use the table saw for anything? All the cuts will be unseen, right?
Dont get me wrong you and the hood and the lights are more than welcome in my heated shop anytime. Just thinking we could take care of it there with less transport.
I got a great idea!!!!
Person to person conversation!!!! LoL

Glad to see you finally got all the stuff to put your lights together, looks really good also

great looking build, It's nice to see you've taken the time to do it right. So many people are in such a hurry to just throw them together, then have wires going everywhere with that rat nest look just to see them on

Now that the holes are drilled and the work is now on the top side of the heat sink we had to build special heatsink holders. We have to thank Gavin for his invaluable assistance in this endevour.

All the solder points along the wires are protected with heat shrink

Eric's make shift heat gun.....let me say it does not work as quickly as a true heat gun

Thanks again to stuart for bringing his...which made quick work in doing three wiring harnesses

and here are all three heat sinks wired up

Here is a mock up of where they will sit on the hood. We have placed them so the lights will be centered over each opening over the tank.

The drivers will behind the heat sinks.

Next, wire up the drivers to a single power source, getting power to the fans. Modifying the hood....wowzers we are getting close......

You know you're getting close to being done when the dining room table returns back to normal... :D:D

How exciting for the both of you. Cant wait to see the true colors of your tank once they are in place and running.
So after they are up and running, what will be your next do-dad to add to your system? Calc reactor? Bio pellets?
Your getting pretty good at this DIY stuff. I know who will be helping me with my LEDs, Someday....

Dont let the lack of holes in your hood keep you from doing some finish work. We can get them cut in there this weekend.

Lights Looks really clean

wow..looks like you could take off in a plane with all this equipment and wiring....LOL...

The next DIY will be just kickin back and watching it grow for a bit then maybe a Ca reactor when needed. Also been thinking up an automated continuous water change system???

No problem on your LED build. Gotcha covered there buddy.

To clean up the power cords going to the drivers, all six, we decided to wire them into a single power source. We used two intersystem bonding termination units. We have all the hot wires going into one...dubbed the HOT BOX, and all the grounded wires going into the other....dubbed the DUMMY BOX.....no that's not where bad husbands go when in trouble

all wired and buttoned up.....LOOKING CLEAN....power supply forthcoming

The black project box has been modified for three dc jacks that the fans will be wired into.

if someone who didnt know what you were doing stumbled on these pictures they might call the FBI.

really clean work. lookin good !

Incredible job you two, top notch stuff and cannot wait to see this Bad Boy fired up. Will have to make the effort to come down for a visit to see how it really looks.

Cheers, Todd

Looking Great! Builds like these sure set the bar rather high for the rest of us. LOL

I've been wondering how I was going to incorporate my fixture into a hood since Robin doesn't want an open top tank. Now I know. :)
