    My New Toy

Gaby... if you don't know by now... wow. But this isn't really the place to teach you about lingerie, so you're going to have to figure it out on your own.

Show me your full tank shots

Yes, lundy, that is a three year old millepora. I really have a liking for tabling corals, so there are a few more in there now that I'm hoping will also look nice in a few more years.

Show me your full tank shots

Thanks, everyone. Mixed into the first two pages of my tank build thread is a little more information about that background. Yes, it's painted with cans of spray paint. http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28126

Show me your full tank shots

And you just asked me last week why I'd ever want to scrape the coralline off the back glass. :D

Show me your full tank shots

I last posted my 38g on page 73 of this thread, and showed my 120g right after transfer. Now that the 120g is maturing, here's a newer shot (cyano sandbed and all).

True Power Compact full tank shots, PLEASE NO t-5 OR mh.

Please, it wasn't my intent to hijack this thread completely. I'm sorry about that, briang. I had a PC shot, so I shared it, but thought I'd compare it to the same tank under MH. Unfortunately, that derailed your thread. Yes, I scrape all the coralline off the back glass religiously, but those...

Help my gargonians are melting away

Very impressive, John! That actually looks very different than my purple whip. Mine has flat "blade" stalks, not round. Here's a photo example found at peteducation.com

    Anthias Food

Mine ate frozen mysis very willingly. I made my own mix of frozen stuff based around mysis as a base. Probably 90% mysis, with some Cyclop-Eeze thrown in for color and added nutrition, as well as Sel-Con and Sweetwater zooplankton.

Help my gargonians are melting away

Gorgonians are filter feeders, most aren't photosynthetic. I've had one about a year and a half, but I dose my tank very heavily with phytoplankton. For the first few months, it did exactly what they all do... slowly shrunk, day by day. When I started harvesting my own phytoplankton, I started...

    Kill the zoos

Purple tips? My old spongodes had purple tips. I've never known a really great way to specifically differentiate the confusa and spongodes. From my experience, the major difference appears to be taller ridges between the coralites. The undata, on the other hand, appears to have a completely...

    My 300----- the Rebuild

Umm... I know we'd like to. I know my father in law would like us to even more. :) And now that you even have a reef to look at again, there's even more reason!

    Kill the zoos

Check out an undata: http://www.reeffarmers.com/limitedmontiporaundatatrue.htm Examples of confusa Examples of spongodes Examples of danae Ironically, I'm not a fan of when reefers get caught up on names and species ID, yet I'm the one who started this mess. :D Wasn't someone talking about...

    Kill the zoos

I definitely vote m. confusa. As for your zoa problem... if that rock can come out easily, your montipora will handle open air for a lot longer than you'd think. It may be worth the effort to scrape away the zoas with something like a razor. Don't forget to rinse it down (with tank water)...

    Kill the zoos

Are you sure that's a Danae? It looks like either a Spongodes or Confusa. The danae usually has lots of bumps, not ridges.

    My tank today

Dee, everything looks awesome. It's nice to see an actual small colony of Duncans, rather than having it fragged as soon as it grows another head. This is the first time I've ever actually been intrigued by those guys. I have a perfect spot in my 120g for them, if they don't work out for you. :)

Nice frags... bummer about the red bugs, man! j/k :p

    Some new photos

Lots of great photos, thank you! I'm also anxious for a FTS.

my salt is as stiff as a board

Salt sure is cheap... isn't peace of mind worth a few bucks to you? I remember a local club member sharing that he used tap water and salt for his first salt mix. After learning why that was a horrible idea, he was wishing he hadn't done that. He started asking about carbon, Phosban, etc. to...

    Failure to thrive

It sounds like you're getting on the right track. I wouldn't even think of considering an RO/DI unit to be optional, no matter what water you're using. Consider a couple larger water changes, perhaps 30% or even greater, to get a larger volume of the cleaner water in there. You posted that you...

    Halimedia turned white overnight

Wow, Curt... that's rough! I have three varieties in my 12g nano. Two that are extremely similar, standard large "leafed," and one with a smaller, lacy structure. I agree, they compliment each other well. I added them to the nano to see what I thought about them before adding them to my 120g...
