It's been a while since I updated this thread.
Not much has changed, except I finally made the decision to upgrade my lights.
I'm going all leds.
Making the choice of which ones was made easier when my wife said I could use income tax refund money. I had planned on another type, but the Radion software makes a strong arguement.
So I got these.
To make the light hanger, I ordered some 1" square aluminum tubing from a place called eztube.com
They also had the connectors I needed.

I make sure that I have enough taken out during the year so I don't have to pay more. Just doesn't seem right.
I had issues with the IRS once, and vowed never to let that happen again.
Once I get the new leds installed, I am hoping I can remove my 1/2hp chiller.
Plus I will be removing the main display pump which is a Poseidon P4 which does add heat.
I'll replace it with a Eheim 1262.
Last week I removed the Poseidon pump I used on a closed loop.
I may replace that with another Eheim 1262 if I can find one that's priced right.
With the changes in pumps, chiller and lights, I figure I can get the household power bill to drop about $35 to $40 a month.

No, I really don't think I would need them on a softy tank.
I don't think I will even get the intensity up over 60%.

Very kool! I did my taxes yesterday. Im looking for a quiet affordable pump as well. Everyone says or suggests ehiems.

Eheims do have a history of being very quiet, without adding much heat to the water.
My Poseidons are the absolute quietest pumps I have ever seen. You actually have to touch them to see if they are working.

Not only no longer needing your chiller, look to buy a new heater or two. Will amaze you!
For a small tank with a water colled pump, ehaims are great. They also VERY rarely have start-up issues. Air cooled, I also like the quietness of poseidons.

I just did some major ripping out of alot of stuff. I removed about 2-1/2 to 3 square feet of corals.
Things are pretty ragged looking right now, and I have more to do.
Might be a while before I think it's picture worthy.

Short answer,, yeah.
My main focus through the years has been green finger leathers, colorful mushrooms, and zoanthids.
I went through a 5-6 month period where I wasn't able to take care of the tank and things got out of hand.
The brown fuzzy leather I had ( one of the non green leathers I like which was almost a pink) took over a huge area, more that 2' x 2' and choked out a couple nice small green leathers. At one time I put some kenya tree in the tank, and that got out of hand.
Button polyps took over almost all available rock space choking out all the mushrooms, other polyps, and anything else in the way. I think my filefish ate my mini maxi collection.
So, after puttting this off for the last 7-8 months, I jumped in and just started tearing stuff out.
I still have a bunch to get rid of, but atleast, now I can tackle small areas a little at a time.
