Don't you just hate when tablesaws act up? *lol* Had to perform a tablesaw tune up yesterday as I had a blade get stuck on the arbor for some unknown reason. New blade was installed on there too. Stupid Craftsman tablesaw (cheap). I really cannot wait to get the Powermatic that I have my eye on.

So after lubing everything, retorquing all bolts as necessary and all adjustments have been performed, we are back to cutting wood.

So since I had to test out the tablesaw after doing the annual maintenance on it. I decided why not build just one more of these little projects that have been on the do list for far to long.

A little saltwater vial test holder. Got tired of always spilling those darned things, so here is what I came up with. Still needs to be finish sanded and painted a nice bright white. Why paint? Well all the tests I've ever done say to hold vial up to a white background or look down onto a white background. So what easier way but paint this white. :D Sweet!!!

Wow that's a pretty special table saw that cuts those circular holes like that Alex. Very cool. :D

Nice work man. I would love to have one of those. I think I have spilled almost as many vials as I have had be successful.

Yeah, me too. That is really cool. Are you taking orders for those. I'd like one with room for 6 test vials.

Sounds like I may have to make a few extras. We'll see how it turns out after paint. It definately looks kick butt after sanding down with 220.

If this turns out a okay, I would be more than happy to make a few extras. This one I am making can hold the APi test vials and the Salifert round test vials and also has a slot to hold the test cards while testing.

Cheers,
Alex

Sneek Peeks at what's happening in the shop today... Stay tuned for more. :music:

SHOP SHOTS for Thursday July 14th 2011. :music:

Board jointing going on today. This will be the left side of the canopy. Still need to glue up and then cut to correct size. Also going to do a LOT of trim work to the canopy, just like I did with the stand. Doing all this jointing without a true jointer proves to be very tedious in the set up process. And not to worry, the dark section will turn invisible soon.

And THx for the kind words everyone. :D

Its looking good Alex, and anytime you need to come over and use the Jointer just let me know bud. Very COOL idea on the testing stations also.

Cheers, Todd

Its nice to see some progress on your hood. I am guessing it is poplar you are using? It is a pain to joint without a joiner. In the past I have had to make sure I had a board 1 1/2'' wider than what I needed, just cause I had to run in thru the table saw so many times to be sure to get a straight edge. lol I invested in a 72'' x 8'' powermatic, but I still find myself at the table saw with a very good rip blade for shorter joints

Your table saw tune up project came out very nice. That would be a great project for the Workshop Give-a-Way. I know it doesnt take that much more time to crank out a couple more once you have your jigs set up.

THx guys.

Todd: I may take you up on the offer. I am trying to set up my router table as a edge jointer. So far the test pieces are good to go. So we shall see what tomorrow holdsfor the real pieces to be joined.

Peppie: Yes it is poplar wood. That is what I decided to use for the stand and originally I was going to paint the whole thing, but sincve the wife asked me to try and stain it a nice dark color, I went that route.
I usually find that I use the table saw to get a clean straight edge before I use my router table as a jointer. I sometimes wish I had the room for all the tools, but I find myself limited with a one car garage.

I too am limited on space. I have most of my stationary tools on wheels, except the tablesaw. It is still a pain to roll it out and use it, but sometimes it makes all the difference in the world.

Some may say a saw blade is a saw blade, but you and I know different. I bit the bullet and bought a very good rip blade, and have had very good luck producing a glueable joint. Over time the cost out ways the time.

I hear ya there. I think the I have probably spent over $300 on the few sawblades I currently have. I never use those cheapy ones they give you with the tool purchase. I find that I am partial to the Frued sawblades. I even spent some $$ for my circular sawblade. Nice Avanti ultra fine 60 tooth for that little guy and WOW what a nicer cut than even the Diablo contractor series.

And awesome job on your 4th set up there. I think yours blows mine away.

Alex

Sweeeet! You won't regret buying them, wish that I had kept more of them from my Furniture shop days. Can't go wrong with Bessey and/or Pony clamps.

Cheers, Todd
