Ihave a couple of the Koralia Evo's and they work great. The spread is nice, powerful with out causing polyps to close up. Tunze doesn't make anything I wouldn't like to have. Cost vs perf the Koralia are great pumps in both aspects.

I like the evolutions too. I have...haha...a lot of them. The shaft magnet split in a number of them, but they are sending me new shaft magnets.

Lorrie, I am curious, why are you deciding to go with the power heads after your 180 was a closed loop. You have that big Reeflo Hammerhead running the loop on your 180, right? The reason I am interested is because I am planning on going with a CL in my new 150 build and am not planning on any power heads at all. Am just trying to understand why you are moving away from CL to PH.
Thanks
Ichy

You know the single pump running all that flow was kinda nice. But, I didnt like all the plumbing and the flow was continuous.
I want variable flow patterns. And I want to be able to direct the flow where I want it.
This tank is not drilled, but thats not saying I couldnt drill it. I really dont want to though.

Hey lorrie. I have an mp40 on one side of my tank, an evo 1400 on the other side. The side with the 1400, on the back and just above it, i have a 1050 pointed slightly down and straight. Great water flow and my big "ol" rbta loves it! The 2 koralias, as im sure you know, are silent. I wish i had a couple more koralias, that way i can get rid of my mp40!!

You have a lot of noise from the mp40? I have heard that about them from a few people. I wonder why!
I have an mp10 on one side of my 75 and I dont hear it at all. No its not enough for the 75. I also have a K1400 on the other end.

I dont know why. I like the flow, but from day 1, noisy. I used to have 1 on each end. One of the controllers got fried when a hose on my UV came apart. I guess a blessing in disguise. 4 evo 1400 cost less than 1 mp40...lol

If the EcoTech MP's are noisy contact them. They'll figure it out and replace whatever is wrong with it. I have 2 wet sides and one dry side replaced. The pumps where all brand new and where to noisy, contacted EcoTech and within a few days new part was at my door step. Assuming they still have a warranty for free or sell you the part you need.

I personally like the hydor 1400 lorrie, I have one.
I would love a Ecotech tho :D
How many returns are you going to have coming up from your sump?

Hey Lorrie, I started out with four Evo 1400's in gyre fashion on my 125g (60x24x20) and 1000+ gph through a 3/4" SeaSwirl return for random flow patterns. It was PLENTY til my SPS took over, so replaced one othe 1400's with a MP40... LOVE the flow... HATE the noise. Trying to find a deal or would at least like to borrow a MP60 for a day to see if it works better on 3/4" acrylic than the MP40 which is at top of its range for thickness. My best guess is that I'll end up with Tunze 6105's ? and control with my Apex. It is very hard to justify the 6 Evo 1400's = 1 Tunze 6105 or 9 Evo 1400's = 1 MP40 :frusty:

Cheers, Todd

There are two returns. One at the top of each overflow. The return pump is an iwaki 2000gph pump.

I like the koralias too. They say the evo 1400's will work with wavemakers too. I think I will look more into those.

Did they tell you why they were so noisy?

Yeah definitly if you can get the Hydor 1400's to work with a controller of some sort that'd be really cool.
I think you'd be ok with just those and your returns. And your wave maker.

Hi Lorrie,
Is that tank from Sequim by any chance? I ask because I bought some livestock from a guy over here that was getting out of the hobby and that tank with the Iwaki return and refugium looks/sounds familiar.

I almost am.

So I am taking down the 180 gal tank. I am also taking down the 90 gal tank.

I need to move my 40b frag tank too.

I found something that is so perfect. Going to be a lot of work, but I couldnt pass this up.

Custom built 250 gal AGA, w/dual overflow, a custom made sump tank with an Iwaki return pump that does 2000 gallons per hour.. Custom built solid oak stand and canapy. Comes with 400w MH's & 2 6 ft vhos (of which I will be gettiing rid of). I will continue using the radions.

Oh I cant wait!

No actually it was in a business in the silverdale area. The business closed recently. Eric at the Shark Reef has it right now.

Was there an issue with some of the Hydor PH starting up in reverse?
Just wondering if they were on a controller, would that be an issue?

When I put mine on a hard start JBJ wavemaker they are noisy on startup, I don't use the wavemaker for that reason. I dont know if you had a ramp up wavemaker if it would be better?

Yes some of them did start up in reverse. They have supposedly fixed that. They also sent me some parts a long time ago to replace that would fix that problem. Those parts are still in the box. I'm waiting for the shaft magnets to get here. I'll then go thru all of them and put them all back together and test them out. I have only had one that I can think of that would run backwards. Possibly two. They would be the very first two I bought a few years ago.

They are evo 1400's. Perhaps there would be better results using the koralia wavemaker as opposed to the cheap JBJ one but in my experiance they are all grindy sounding and loud when the kick on. I had an evo 1050 on a wave maker in my cube and the impeller magnet had seperated and it quit working after about a year of hard starts on/off on the wavemaker. That said I love them for the price and what they can do.

Most of the ones I have, when I turn them on, I have to check to see if they are running because I didnt hear it come on.
The koralia controller isnt too expensive. I'll give it a shot, see how it works out.
