Still unhappy with skimmer performace so me thinks i will buy an Iwaki 20RLT and see it that will pump up the volume!:)

oki doki, well, the etss 500 is a good skimmer but a beyotch to get dialed in right...
also, it's a thumb splitter when it comes to unscrewing all those damn screws, because your going to be doing it every few days to clean the goo from the cup and neck
from the looks of your air intake valve, it looks like the size of the nipple on the end is 1/8', which might be a wee too small for that guy, unless you run it wide open, because thats about the target size hole you want for that skimmer.
your on the right track with the iwaki pump, high pressure without increasing the gph, that is the ticket..cant remember the gph of the 20rlt but as long as it's around 900gph like the mag your great.
i ran a sedra 1200 on one and it was too much pump, i had to throttle it back some, which you dont want to do.
also, these things run like crap if you have them in the bottom of your sump , you want to lift it up so that the return is above the water line gravity feeding back into the sump.

Yeah i do have it on the bottom of the sump so i will raise it up a bit. Or, did you mean the sedra pump???Thanks for all the suggestions!

Hmmmm.....it will be a little challenging to get it that high....oh well...that is what this hobby is all about. :D

Well it's been awhile since my last post so time for a little update. I finally got the skimmer dialed in with the mag 9. it is working great but i will still but the iwaki on it soon to see what it does. I had a small cyno outbreak last week but the cleanup dudes handled it pretty quickly. All in all it is going really smooth! Next i will be buying some sps from soustas in portland. And now for some pics!:D

Well Gab it is the same one! I have had it for over 2 years now. I TOTALLY bleached itout at first because i had it in a high light area. It turned a psycho pink! Thought i was gonna lose it. But i managed to save it and now it is one of my favorite pieces because of it.:)

For your information Gabby my corals don't bleach:p LOL. I am sure your talking about the birdsnest and it's just a little pissed off! I took these shots about and hour after i put them in the tank. Once the polyps extend it will be o.k.
